I used to stay at the Oriental in Bangkok quite a bit, but even when I had been away for a year or so I was greeted by name by pretty much everybody, none of whom I'd met before. The greatest trick there was the chap who stood by the lifts and, as you walked towards him, would reach inside and press the button on your floor...while still facing you! So, he had to know your floor, and he managed to do a reach-around from behind to press the button! A testament to the fantastic ship the Kurt Wachtveitl built!

Four Seasons to Cease Management of Four Seasons Hotel London at Canary Wharf
It was announced today that by April 30, 2016, Four Seasons will be concluding its management of Four Seasons Hotel London at Canary Wharf. After the transition date the Hotel’s Owner will operate the Hotel under a different luxury hotel brand.
We have been very proud to manage Four Seasons Hotel London at Canary Wharf since it opened in 1999. During that time, the Hotel, with its riverfront location and expansive views of the River Thames, became a preferred destination for visitors to London’s bustling Canary Wharf neighbourhood and business district.
=====
This makes sense with Ten Trinity coming on-line soon. Will still miss this property as it had such a nice resort feel to a hotel in London...

Interesting development here as...
Pierre Gagnaire Replaces Joël Robuchon at La Grande Maison Bordeaux
this bit caught my eyes...

...Gagnaire aims to adapt the cuisine to the local economic reality, so there will be a 20-cover gastronomic restaurant alongside a more moderately priced brasserie of 45 seats.

I don't really understand as La Grande Maison restaurant was fully booked months in advance. I guess it is only the fact that the owner wants more profitability. And a 45-seat brasserie with a low service ratio is way more profitable than a smaller gastronomic restaurant.
Won't be surprised that they upgrade to 3 michelin stars as the new chef (from pierre gagnaire hong kong) is amazing.

super expensive as usual, though only 18 guests
and 'unique' - uses 16 cabin charter yacht
(charters for 4K++ per cabin per night)
(as usual, private jet from HK to palau)

curious to see whether Oceanographic Institute does more themselves (not A&K) in future
im guessing complete lack of trips using charter yachts is because owners are not interested
while most charter yachts max out at 12 passengers, i have seen a bunch with up to 40 cabins
had forgotten about this in past >

recently noticed, after the addition of "attaching" photos to posts, there is a paperclip icon next to "last post" and can click on that paperclip icon to see list of photos attached in thread, for example RC ubud (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/misc....ents&t=1606125) and singapore threads
speaking of clickable links, can also click on the number in "replies" column to see a list of who replied, for example clicking on the 4 for "start here..." thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/misc....sted&t=1656442)

Capella Shanghai to Open in 2017
http://www.luxurytraveladvisor.com/c...pen-2017-17109
Good news for fans of Capella Hotels & Resorts, the ultra-luxe hospitality company founded by Horst Schulze, former president and COO of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. In March 2017, Capella will open an urban resort comprising unique heritage buildings in a historic district of Shanghai. Dating from the 1860s, and really representative of 1930s Shanghai, these Shikumen-- or stone warehouses-- combine eastern and western architectural styles in what’s now called the Jian Ye Li heritage area.

Indeed, seems to be a trend right now, restoring heritage and providing guests with a feel of the "old" Shanghai with all modern amenities/services provided, it's different what Four Seasons offers, I wonder about a future Rosewood in Shanghai. ^
