The programme will now change from 1 January 2022 (postponed again and it will not start before 2023)
https://www.miles-and-more.com/row/e...ts/update.html
All the changes are listed on the official M&M Website: https://www.miles-and-more.com/de/en...ts/update.html
Starting 2021, the system for earning status changes. From then on, status points are earned by cabin and segment flown:
Regional flights will earn 5 points in Economy and Premium Economy, 10 points in First and Business class per segment
Intercontinental flights, ie flights between two IATA regions, will earn 15 points in Economy, 20 in Premium Economy, 50 in Business and 70 in First class segments
There will be two kinds of points : qualifying points (QP): earned with M&M integrated partners (LH/EW/LX/OS/LO/OU/LG/etc) and normal points : earned with other partners like the airlines in the Star Alliance. QP can be earned on LH Airrail train segments, but are capped at 40/120/250 per year for FTL/SEN/HON.
'Frequent Traveler' (FTL, equivalent to *S) status is given to members with 160 points (of which atleast 80 need to be QP), 'Senator' (SEN, *G) to members with 480 points (of which atleast 240 need to be QP). HON Circle (HON) is awarded after reaching 1500 QP in one year.
SEN will receive two evouchers upon qualification each year, HON 4 evouchers. There will be no rollover of QP, but for members who exceed the qualification QP level, M&M will grant the following benefits:
FTL: Mileage exchange for QP at 200 qualifying points
SEN: 2 eVoucher at 700 qualifying points; 15,000 award miles at 1,000 qualifying points; Frequent Traveller partner card at 1,300 qualifying points
HON:2 eVoucher at 1,800 qualifying points; 30,000 award miles at 2,100 qualifying points; 2 eVoucher at 2,400 qualifying points; Frequent Traveller partner card at 2,700 qualifying points; Senator partner card at 3,000 qualifying points
The system of status miles, HON Circle miles, select miles, and status star points will be abolished at the end of 2020. Any status earned prior to that will be honored. Any HON Circle miles earned in 2020 will be credited as QP in the ratio 200:1. Status star points earned till end of 2020 will converted to lifetime QP at a ration of 2:1.
Members with a lifetime QP of 7500 will be awarded FTL for their lifetime. If members reach 10000 lifetime QP and have been SEN for at least a cumulative 10 years they will be awarded lifetime SEN status.
Status is always valid for the year of qualification and one additional year. HON and SEN will have a 'soft landing' ie if they cannot requalify for status, they will get a year of SEN or FTL respectively.

I am assuming that award flights do not count towards points or qualifying points, despite the fact that, from 2021 onwards, only the travel class (and not the fare) will determine the allocation of points.

I am thinking of crossing over to M&M from BA. I read through this thread and other than the fact that the new M&M could be a good match for me, I would welcome a change of scenery after a number of years BA Gold and AA EXP before that. Obviously the changes will not be with us until Jan 2021. I was wondering: does it make sense to already move a few flights at the end of 2020 to M&M? Will it benefit me come 2021 qualification? Or should I just start flying LH and partners from 2021?

No benefit of moving a few flights, your qualification period would start January 21.

Overall I find the LH Group carriers better than BA. Miles and More isn't as good as the BA Exec Club though, but I feel the treatment as a SEN is a little better than I get as a BA Gold. Being based in London, the opportunity to earns miles (as opposed to Avios) is substantially less, so still keep my foot in the oneworld camp to some extent. I've managed to earn over 1000tps this year without actually trying.

Interesting. I took a few short LH flights and I found it pleasant. I may miss the Asian and Australian OW First lounges however. I quite easily will be able to maintain both BA Silver and SEN. Maybe that is the way to go rather than going only for HON which may also be possible (just...). My credit card gives me access to some of the LH first class lounges in MUC and FRA which I find important so SEN may be enough, but I am not sure how long that access will last.

BA LT Gold is great to have. Not happening for me unfortunately. I think I will read up on the FT M&M and the Lufthansa forums so I can make an informed decision after the virus mess is over. Skyteam is also an obvious option being Dutch and based in the Netherlands but the alliance does not appeal to me as much. I do like KLM though. Had great J 789 flights to Chicago recently, truly excellent. European Y flights also good but they drop the ball on lounges/Skyteam network. So I am leaning towards M&M. As a leasure flyer who pays himself for cheaper J class buckets, it seems to fit me.

LHG often have good deals ex-ams for paid tickets.
also, although Lufthansa’s hard product is mediocre, I am a huge fan of Swiss and Austrian J products!

There is no way the new qualifying points system will be introduced next year. It just isn’t happening now. Let’s just hope M&M survives.

I think the new system will still come, as it rewards frequency of flying and doesn't look at the revenue you bring in (like the old system). I'm expecting a status mile gift to existing elites to bridge their status into the new system, ie 50/17.5 k for SEN/FTL to cover the loss of half a flying year. If the restrictions last for more than six months (ie into atumn) then I'd expect a elite status extension by a year.
As mentioned in the other thread, the travel industry with use loyalty programs to stimulate demand in a recession.

this would be interesting. I’m already at 100k HON miles for the year. And depending on how this pans out was planning to spend the balance of the year on the road, and still accruing another 200k HON miles. I suppose getting a bump by another 150k wouldn’t be all that bad :-)
same here.
I have already 105k HON miles and currently active bookings for another 243040 currently ticketed (so at least 348kHONmiles should be in total for end and most probably some 50000 else for upcoming travel), but at least flights for around 50000 HON miles needs to be rescheduled as I do not think there will be any possibility to fly in 2 weeks.
