The programme will now change from 1 January 2022 (postponed again and it will not start before 2023)
https://www.miles-and-more.com/row/e...ts/update.html
All the changes are listed on the official M&M Website: https://www.miles-and-more.com/de/en...ts/update.html
Starting 2021, the system for earning status changes. From then on, status points are earned by cabin and segment flown:
Regional flights will earn 5 points in Economy and Premium Economy, 10 points in First and Business class per segment
Intercontinental flights, ie flights between two IATA regions, will earn 15 points in Economy, 20 in Premium Economy, 50 in Business and 70 in First class segments
There will be two kinds of points : qualifying points (QP): earned with M&M integrated partners (LH/EW/LX/OS/LO/OU/LG/etc) and normal points : earned with other partners like the airlines in the Star Alliance. QP can be earned on LH Airrail train segments, but are capped at 40/120/250 per year for FTL/SEN/HON.
'Frequent Traveler' (FTL, equivalent to *S) status is given to members with 160 points (of which atleast 80 need to be QP), 'Senator' (SEN, *G) to members with 480 points (of which atleast 240 need to be QP). HON Circle (HON) is awarded after reaching 1500 QP in one year.
SEN will receive two evouchers upon qualification each year, HON 4 evouchers. There will be no rollover of QP, but for members who exceed the qualification QP level, M&M will grant the following benefits:
FTL: Mileage exchange for QP at 200 qualifying points
SEN: 2 eVoucher at 700 qualifying points; 15,000 award miles at 1,000 qualifying points; Frequent Traveller partner card at 1,300 qualifying points
HON:2 eVoucher at 1,800 qualifying points; 30,000 award miles at 2,100 qualifying points; 2 eVoucher at 2,400 qualifying points; Frequent Traveller partner card at 2,700 qualifying points; Senator partner card at 3,000 qualifying points
The system of status miles, HON Circle miles, select miles, and status star points will be abolished at the end of 2020. Any status earned prior to that will be honored. Any HON Circle miles earned in 2020 will be credited as QP in the ratio 200:1. Status star points earned till end of 2020 will converted to lifetime QP at a ration of 2:1.
Members with a lifetime QP of 7500 will be awarded FTL for their lifetime. If members reach 10000 lifetime QP and have been SEN for at least a cumulative 10 years they will be awarded lifetime SEN status.
Status is always valid for the year of qualification and one additional year. HON and SEN will have a 'soft landing' ie if they cannot requalify for status, they will get a year of SEN or FTL respectively.

One of the best status runs is going to be Larnaca to Beirut return on A3 for around €370 in C. Only a 40-minute flight with a 40-minute turnaround. 100 points and 4800 award miles!

Right. Status miles no longer exist, but there are "points" and "qualifying points". Qualifying points are the ones earned on LH group flights. For FTL and SEN, you need to meet 50% of the points requirement using qualifying points; for HON, it's 100%.

I read the new qualification requirements for SEN, but wanted to confirm when/how I next need to worry/work on the re-qualification. My current SEN status is valid until February 2021. Yesterday, I passed 100k status miles and hence achieved my re-qualification until February 2023 . So, under the current program rules, I would have a 'dead' year in 2020 and could re-qualify by collecting 100k status miles during either during 2021, 2022 or Jan/Feb 2023. Is it correct that due to the program changes becoming effective from 2021, I now have two 'dead' years (2020 AND 2021) and that for SEN re-qualification I need to collect 480 points in 2022 (or Jan/Feb 2023) and then would re-qualify for SEN until February 2024?

Yes, correct.
2021 is dead for you in terms of requalification, but any flight in 2021 will count towards LT status.

You are right. The only exception is, that you can collect QP for the lifetime FTL/SEN in 2021.

I know I'm late to the party (just heard the news a day or two ago) but this has been a very interesting thread to read. I moved from M&M to BAEC several years ago because the earnings for mid-tier econ fares (V, Q, H) on LH were slashed and P was also fairly meager earnings-wise. So BA got my three or four transatlantic trips a year (which quickly went from prem econ to biz with an occasional A fare plus some intra-US flying on AA) and I consistently earned Gold (oneworld emerald--the top teir) though I occasionally fell short and got silver.
Intra-Europe flying was whatever was cheapest but since I live in Croatia where OU is a M&M member, it means a lot of flights end up being on Star carriers. and I ended up earning FT each year based on segments. But except for a small extra luggage allowance on some flights and lounge access in the M&M hubs, the benefits of FT status are pretty poor. So I was looking at Asiana again starting in 2020 to earn Star Gold status (which would have meant shifting some/all transatlantic flights to Star Alliance).
This actually changes things. If I do ten European round trips a year in economy class (average four segments per trip) that's 40 segments times 5 points = 200 points. Plus three transatlantic trips a year in discount biz (P or Z) = at least 300 points not even including the connecting flights to FRA, MUC or VIE. So that gives me Senator. Which I've never been able to earn before despite an average spend of over $12K a year on tickets (not much, I know, in the grand scheme of things, but definitely enough for top tier status on BA with my flying patterns).
Anyway, it seems like I have a year to think about things, but this is definitely a positive change for me. And if I can earn *G on M&M, I'd much rather do that than deal with Asiana Club and their insanely difficult website for spending miles.

So i decided to move from BA to LH, looks like I will do 100k miles in Jan/Feb and earn FTL. Do you reckon its worth earning 600k through 2020 to get the HON circle until 2024 or should i spread my flying to AF/KLM and BA and earn HON in 2021 using 1500 points?

Do you intend to do all 600k in 2020? That would be pretty crazy. IIRC, there's a benefit to doing as much as you can in 2020 if that's the first year of the original two year qualification period.

I don't know your yearly routings but HON for 4 years if you're doing the miles anyways...why not? Then you have 2021-2024 to mix it up with others and see if you can 2024 the HON run again.
It's kind of unnerving that we're into planning mid 20's now. Time flies.

Seems like you don't have to do all 600k in 2020 to get status through 2024:
Option 2:
We will, of course, recognise the HON Circle miles you flew in 2020 and will convert them into qualifying points. This amount will then be added to the qualifying points you earn in 2021. If you reach a total of 3,000 qualifying points, you will obtain HON Circle Member status for two years up until February 2024.
Conversion factor: 200 HON Circle miles will be equivalent to one qualifying point. 300,000 HON Circle miles will thus be equivalent to 1,500 qualifying points.
