I am reading conflicting answers.... can someone confirm if (generally) fixed-price/bid upgrades are available for award bookings?

hi booked 27/03/24 BHX>FRA>BOM prem economy - Upgrade offer is:
- fixed £85/£487
- bid starts at €80/€435 (approx £68/£416)

The long haul plane is LH 756, a 747/400 - Are there any website listing loads or timeframes to keep an eye on it? Id love to go on the top deck

Those are pretty good prices, without even looking I would be pretty confident there is P inventory still available.

With a month to go, expect the fixed price to only go up, perhaps the minimum bid as well.

UA 016 ticket in business. FRA-IAH LH440 in D. No offer with UA codeshare. Switched to LH native flight numbers; offered US$1,270 to buy up to last F seat.

I have a Eco basic plus ticket PVG - MUC in 2.5months, where im wait listed (2x persons) for a miles upgrade into business.
On the app there is now an offer to upgrade to PE for 200€ p.p., which seems cheap to me as it was 500€ before - Business would cost 1.170€, feels pricey.
Ideally my miles business upgrade would go through, but im worried that it wont, and then ill be stuck in economy and wishing I had taken this offer.

Should I take the offer?
And if I do upgrade into PE, can I still upgrade to business with miles or cash later on? Or would this be a not allowed double upgrade?

Thanks in advance!

No double upgrades allowed. Your cash upgrade will cancel the upgrade wait list.

Just for clarity: are you saying that purchasing a cash upgrade in the app is the end of the road? For example, if someone buys revenue G and then uses the app for a cash upgrade to Business...there is no possible road to F at that point?

Yes, correct. The cash upgrade changes the booking class to the next available one in Business and accounts for the change using an EMD. At this point technically no further change is possible to the booking (for example using a evoucher). The only other option could be a seat change upgrade in the DCS at the airport.

Hmm. I've just checked two previous upgrades in the last year, and in each case the booking code changed along with the class:

1) Purchased E --> bid upgrade accepted --> credited in M&M account as Z.
2) Purchased L --> fixed price upgrade --> credit in M&M account as P.

If the booking code changes along with the class, is it really an EMD that limits further upgrades?

The underlying ticket doesn't change, the system needs an EMD to account for the change. This is issued for bid/cash/evoucher upgrades. You can't have two EMDs.

I have a eco (X) ticket booked through United on LX 23, but can't find the fixed price cash upgrade option on the Swiss website when looking at the reservation. Will there be an opportunity to upgrade with cash at some point? I'm 4-5 weeks away.

Pretty nice upgrade offer yesterday imo.

I booked ALA-FRA-IAD-BNA in J and the return BNA-YYZ-FRA-ALA in PE for travel at the end of May. During the booking process, my return itinerary didn't show availability in J but as soon as I was booked, I was offered fixed price upgrades:

YYZ-FRA - 410 CHF
FRA-ALA (with a stop in NQZ) - 270 CHF

Didn't have to thing twice and bought them both!

Had a nice one for family member, FRA-YUL in 3 weeks time, upgraded from U->N for a paltry €129. Can't beat that value IMO.

Flying SFO - FRA in PE on 747-8, cash upgrade offer to business is $740, worthwhile or not?

Seems within reason, and maybe a few bucks below recent reporting.

As an aside, I inquired at check-in 19 days ago about upgrading from Business to First, on the LAX-FRA 747-800. Price was $2,010. The CSR had to ask a supervisor for a price, and it was printed on a piece of paper alongside some other upgrade options, rather than being pulled from their computer system.
