If by "organic" you mean a B6 Mosaic who became a Mosaic via traveling on B6, I would qualify.

M4, flying chiefly via USA-Europe on Mint, as the pricing was better than other carriers, the hard and soft product the same or better, I don't need a lounge, and I'm paying for the tickets out of my own pocket.

I have been looking at using the certificates USA-Europe, by creating dummy reservations out of my travel bank account, then cancelling and repeating. I have been comparing the Blue fares to Mint for various travel dates and destinations. I have usually found that I need 4 certificates for a round trip. The cost of the Blue fare plus the incremental tax/fee when the certificates are applied runs about $1000. If I booked trip with the Mint fare it is a bit under $2800.

Valuation: up to $1800 for four certificates or around $425-$450/each is my current valuation. YMMV.

Data point - booked LAX-JFK round trip for second week May, chose flights that (at least at this moment) are slotted to be serviced by the A321Neo. Zero seats had been chosen on either leg, and it was 2 certificates each way, 4 total for the round-trip. If the equipment sticks on the Neo I'll be okay with that redemption... we'll see.

Out of interest, which routes were you looking at? JFK/BOS to LHR/LGW? How much were the additional taxes & fees as part of that $1k amount for Blue fare + fees?

I'm trying to work out how much it will cost to do a AMS/CDG/LHR/LGW-BOS/JFK-DTW return in the next month or so but the rollout & functionality seems to be a disaster.

Ah, well that explains why I wasn't able to see anything. Not being able to tell before purchase is kind of annoying though. I guess if it's tied to Mint cash price one could make an educated guess, but still...

Unrelated question: Has anyone here applied certificates, or even just checked the price, for a multi-segment itinerary, e.g. SFO-JFK-LHR? Curious if in the new dynamic system the certificates are still per-segment, or if maybe west coast to Europe might end up potentially being cheaper if it's priced out for the journey as a whole.

I booked a multi-segment itinerary. Each segment appears in a box with its own checkbox, and you check the boxes for the flights you want to upgrade. The cost in certs is definitely additive. No discounts for upgrading multiple segments at once. If you don't have enough remaining certs after adding one or two segments, the other boxes will gray out.

When you have connecting flights, the screen cuts off most of the first segment's box (all I could read was + $60). So you can't see how many certs are required unless you click on the right side of the box and actually add the segment. Classic JetBlue IT.

Ah, too bad, but thank you for the info!
That does make EU to West Coast probably the anti-sweet spot for certificate use, on top of the extra layover being a drawback in itself. (Assuming TATL is still a minimum of 2 certs.)

The above research was NYC-LON. Fares circa $850; fees under $200. I'm indifferent to LHR or LGW. B6 at LGW is not attractive but I'm usually there for less than 30 minutes. Walking around T2 at LHR is better, but not worth $300+ more to me.

Got it so the DP is that you can only use Certs on RT flights, not OW but you can pick the leg to use the flight on?

Did not look at one one-way flights. Did not attempt to utilize certificates on only one portion of the trip. Cannot provide information on those issues.

Have 6 certs and deciding how/when to use them on B6, or fly another carrier. What I've discovered is that I can save $1800 on a R/T fare from NYC-LON if I plan it correctly.

OK - so i went and became the data point that i was looking for:

BOS->LON OW 2 PASS W/ Miles : Not Eligble
BOS->LON RT 1 PASS W/$: 3 certs over, 2 back (both showing even though only have 4 available)
BOS->LON OW 1 PASS W/$: 3 certs over (makes sense)
LON->BOS OW 2 PASS W/$: 4 certs (praying that means for two people since OW its 2 certs)
LON->BOS OW 1 PASS W/Miles: 2 certs only ?!?

my gut is thinking that they just didn't have pricing yesterday for the certs which is why its showing not eligible??
first day jitters?
anyways going to hunt for a 2 cert TATL flight and report back but hope these data points are helpful, yesterday was terrified there was no flexibility

my takeaways so far

SIDE NOTE - this has to be reaking havok on their servers the amount of books and cancels people are doing to figure out move to mint cert counts needed like what a .... process

yes

BOS <-> LON OW (either direction) are coming up as 3 or 4 mint certs, I thought it was supposed to be 2 only?

Also, how do I do a month search for how many mint certs it takes to upgrade a specific flight?

Rommie2k6 Jan 6, 2024 12:49 am

Can anyone use the certs online?
