Unless something has changed that I'm not aware of you need to do it for each entry to the country.
I started my 2nd VJW already, not complete yet. |
Arrived back at Narita today and immigration was packed - took me 45 minutes to get through…. What was worse though was the line to leave customs using your QR code - it literally wrapped all the way around the baggage hall - however the regular lines were empty - so I filled out the paper customs form and was out the door in less than a minute.
Still some bugs to work out it seems…. |
Another datapoint:
Arrived Narita on Sunday around 1:30pm. I had all the QRcodes printed but somehow they were in black and white. The staff at the line were looking for the yellow line on the custom form, so beware of it. Fortunately I was able to get online to retrieve the codes. It took me almost an hour to go through immigration and custom. Immigration was almost 45 minutes there were many Korean tourists at the same time. But on a brighter note, Japan is amazing at 1 to 140. |
Does anyone know the protocol if you answer "yes" to any of the quarantine screening questions, e.g. having a week before recovered from Covid? Test at the airport, quarantine if positive?

Haneda data point from yesterday:
Plane to train in less than 45minutes. Longest wait was for my bags to come out, and maybe walking from Gate 146. QR codes worked as advertised with only slight hiccups with the Quarantine coming out of the plane (waiting for wifi to connect) and at Immigration when the machine didn't read my passport on the first try. Both of those added maybe a couple of minutes total. Things right behind me might have been a little longer since I met a bunch of Quarantine folks waiting for the doors to a CX flight to open and just doing a quick check asking if we had the paper with how to contact them if we had a COVID issue. There were maybe a dozen test stations right before Immigration but with the right paper and QR scan I went right on by for Immigration. Of course YMMV. |

I think it was so fast because DL 007 is one of the first flights in of the afternoon bank so the lines didn't have a chance to form yet. As noted in my last post there was a CX flight just getting ready unload when I went scooting.by.

so is VJW required for entry or one can opt to skip and use the "slow track"? Does airline check-in agent check for VJW submission?
|
The airlines won't check you in without proof of either full vaccination or a prior 72 hour COVID test. Using at least the Quarantine part saves a lot of time pulling out all of the paperwork at departure and there's still the chance that without the QR code you won't get checked in anyway. There's also going to be a hassle when you get to Japan with the Quarantine folks.
Also the paper route at Immigration is a bit longer and at Customs about half of the manual booths have been replaced with the e-gates. Lines were already forming for the manual checks when I got to Haneda last week and I was one of the first people out of Baggage Claim. VJW is merely having you enter the information that the assorted officers have to enter when you get there. It's a significant improvement over the old system. It cut what was an hour in the Customs/Immigration area before to 45 minutes plane to train this time. |
Just opened a Visit Japan Web account and registered my passport, which was confirmed instantly. When I tried to fill the Questionnaire WEB part, the website doesn't accept any postcode for "2-1 Enter the address of your accommodation for isolation after arriving in Japan (hotel, home, etc.).". I can choose the Prefecture manually, but I'm unable to choose the Municipality and it's not possible to continue without.
I also changed to the japanese website, but still get the same error: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...414a04585b.jpg Any advice how to solve this? |

Are you entering it with the hyphen? Ours is 104-0033 and although the hyphen doesn’t show when the form is complete it is accepted….

If I use your 1040033 it works and the Prefecture and Municipality fields will be filled automatically. But if I use the postcode of our hotels, Intercontinental Tokyo Bay, which is 1058576, it doesn't work and I just get the error. So their database just miss this postcode. I also tried the postal code of the Crowne Plaza Kanazawa where we will also stay during our trip. It is 9208518 and also doesn't work.
