IHG Rewards Premier Credit Card and IHG Rewards Premier Business Credit Card UA TravelBank Benefit

Per Chase personal and biz application pages: “Receive up to $50 United® TravelBank Cash to use when you book United® or United Express® flights*”

Announced February 2022, first post on this thread (#446, Feb 27, 22, 6:27 am).

Post on this thread specifying link to (try to) receive UA TB credits (#454, Mar 24, 22, 3:47 pm).

Consensus here as of Spring 2022 shortly after the commencement of this benefit was 1 (one) UA TB deposit per name and IHG account, not per credit card. Cardholders of both IHG personal and IHG biz cards received 1 UA TB deposit, some authors wrote that they had contacted IHG and were told the same thing.

As of mid-July 2022, when some people should have received their July 1 $25 TB credit, multiple people reported NOT receiving the July 1 credit and that communications with IHG and/or Chase and/or UA were unproductive and unsuccessful.

I've held the old IHG Select card since last June, and applied for the new IHG Premier on 5/24/18. I was approved, and the card came in the mail a full 18 days later. I met the minimum spend during the second month, with my second statement closing 7/23. 80K bonus points posted on 7/24, along with 1x/2x/10x credit card spend points.

I have seen a delay in the Global Entry/PreCheck credit being applied. I used mine for a friend. Charged on 7/9 and haven't yet seen any reimbursement, despite my statement closing. Fine print on Chase's website says "The statement credit will be posted to your account within 24 hours of the Global Entry or TSA Pre✓® program application fee being charged to your card," but that hasn't happened. First phone call told me to wait until my statement closed; second phone call today told me to wait another week.
Thanks for the info.

Upgrading to the premium card has been a fiasco for me. I called Chase to upgrade from the base level IHG card but the service rep told me that if I did that, I wouldn't get the 80K sign up bonus and that I should apply for a new account. So I went ahead and did that, but apparently he upgraded me anyway as 2 weeks later, the new card shows up. OK fine, but right after that I get a letter from Chase saying they couldn't approve the Premium account because my credit was locked. So I unlocked my Experian account and called Chase but she said they were going to deny my application because I already had a premier IHG account. Ummm... OK. The following week I get another new base level card with the same account number as my premier card. I call Chase and the CSR says he doesn't know what happened but go ahead and destroy that card and use the premier card. Now, missing about 10K points from recent stays on the premium card as nothing seems to be posting, no 80K bonus, a higher annual fee. Tell me why I did this again?

About ready to cancel the whole mess and go with Hilton/Amex

Is a points + cash booking considered 'buying points' for purposes of this rebate?

If you’re referring to the new 20% discount or savings “feature” for buying IHG points, it appears to be a myth. I don’t believe anyone has actually received this benefit. There are lots of posts here about that fiasco. But to answer your question, I don’t believe it was ever intended to cover buying points via points + cash bookings (that method of buying points is already significantly discounted).

Applied on a Friday evening and was instantly approved. Platinum upgrade message appeared in account history on following Tuesday morning (day 4). Was only able to book 4th award night free on following Monday morning (day 10). Card also arrived on that day.

Looks like Premier card is now offering 100k bonus points, limited time, plus $50 SC via dummy booking.

Yep! In fact, I don't even think u need to the dummy booking. I receive my 80K bonus in the last 90 days so I SM'd chase today and they verified that I had spent $3K already and promptly matched the difference by awarding my 20K points.

Yes, can confirm that both cards and their benefits work and 5/24 does not apply. Great combo if you already have the old card .

20% off points only applies to buying points when there is not a promotion, so its really not a benefit at all

Does this mean on promos we get 20% off, from the base points? (i.e., but 100k points + 100k points bonus promo, you get 20k points off? or nothing at all?)

Do I need to buy the points with the card to get the 20% off, or just have the card?

100,000 points?

So I see that if I start a new reservation, I get the offer of 100K points on IHG plus $50 statement credit ($89 annual fee, 0 first year). I wanted to find out - how much are these points worth. Holidayinn express typical rate seems to be $125-$150 or so - how many points for a night?

Did you simply ask and they said sure we'll give you the 20K extra?

One small clarification is that your application has to be within the last 90 days. My bonus had posted in the last 90 days, but the application was just over 90 days, so I was denied. In the past, I have had a couple offers matched and it was painless. Send a SM explaining you opened your account in the last 90 days, the offer you got, and the offer you see available now, and ask if they would kindly match it for you. They have always responded within a day. On this one, I believe the initial offer required 2K spend and the new offer is 3K spend, just in case that is an issue.

Your typical Holiday Inn Express is generally 20-30k points
