Based upon requests, this is now a wiki - please feel free to edit - but please only post the suite that you are confirmed into and not what you ultimately get (eg PH Vendome books into Park Suite but many ultimately get a Park Executive Suite). I'll start with that one for formatting example - I will try to do refinements to this when I have some time later.

To check the room type you booked into, you may use Hyatt E-Concierge:

HR Maui. DSU - Napili "suite". Disgraceful. They call this a lanai and it is 2 feet wide that you can barely step out to.

Can I just pay for the most basic room type offered before using a DSU?

Andaz Liverpool St has an Andaz Single that's GBP20 less than a Queen. Should I just book the Single?

I cancelled two bookings about a week and a half ago which had suite upgrades applied. I have called them and they say the awards will be returned but they seem to be having trouble doing this. As yet still no awards credited back. Anyone else having trouble with this?

I would update the wiki, but I’m not up to 90 posts yet. Sorry!

1. Hyatt Regency Long Beach (Long Beach, CA)
2. Harbor Suite
3. Not sure about square footage
4. One normal Harbor View bedroom attached to a living area (the Harbor Suite). As for bedroom/bathroom count, the sofa in the suite was a sleeper sofa, but I don’t know if it qualifies for a true bedroom. So, 1.5 bedrooms (?) and 2 bathrooms total.
5. This was my first DSU, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I was satisfied with the upgrade.
6. The Harbor Suite has connecting deadbolt doors that lead to adjoining rooms on either side. One door leads to a double and the other door leads to a king. So there is some flexibility there, if you need a king+DSU or double+DSU, which is nice. You might also be able to reserve rooms on both sides of the suite if you really need the space.

3. 650-700 sq feet
4. 1 bedroom, 1 bath. However you can also book as a 2-bedroom suite (which we did for our traveling friends.)
5. First time having a "lockout suite" so I was skeptical about using my DSU for it. However with friends traveling with us, I thought it would be nice to have a connecting living room where we could all hang out. I actually am pleasantly surprised with the size of the living room area. I would definitely rate it an A.
6. I asked for a possible upgrade when we checked in. The agent actually checked but due to the holiday (New Years) they were sold out of the next up suite. However, we are lucky that we got 1 of only 2 Exec Suites with a balcony. That must have been the Diamond perk. The balcony is nice and long. It spans from the living room to the bedroom and has great views of the downtown area.

(I will try to post pics later. I couldn't find any online so it would be nice to have known what to expect.)
I would love to see these pictures as I'm planning a trip here soon

Sure. I'll post some pics later. I actually did a video if you would rather see that. I don't have pics of the second bedroom as our friends were in it but it was just a standard room with a king, I believe.

Does anyone know if a second adjoining bedroom can be added to a DSU upgrade and how that would work from a cost perspective?

I assume you mean you want to upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite?
You need to contact the property directly and see what they will offer....

What I've done is book 2 rooms (one with the DSU applied - one a regular room reservation) and then contact the property to request that basically a 2 bedroom suite be blocked. Varying degrees of success.

Chances of a complimentary upgrade to a 2bedroom suite is next to nonexistent.

I did the same as peteropny. I booked the suite and I called to ask that our friends traveling with us (completely different name & reservation) be blocked into the adjoining room. Hotel had no problem blocking us off that way. Just make sure that you call and have them notate connecting rooms on your reservation.

DSU. Hard date expire next year?

Was applying my last DSU yesterday talking to agent. One DSU had been returned and was now showing 2/28/2017 expire which I of course thought weird. Agent commented that under new system after 2/29/2016 next years set of DSU would NOT have the ability to book after expiration. Must be totally consumed by 2/28/2017. Is this the case going forward? Sorry if posted before.
