If more of Hyatt's hotels are AI, then 'free breakfast' is proportionally less valuable

Any leisure lifetime Globalists out there?

SHLTP Feb 13, 2025 5:08 pm

I find it interesting how so many of us have been globalists for 7-20 years but are still so far from qualifying for LTG on spend. I guess a lot of us use Chase points? I probably earn 500,000- 1 million points a yr on chase and then transfer to Hyatt.

I don't like most of the new builds - the AIs, the URcoves because it diminishes the value of globalist. That scares me after what Marriott did. And I'm not sure the Pritzkers will always remain shareholders as the generations go down.

I did go out of my way to get SPG LTP. I started when I was 26 and working for another firm. I started my own company at 27 and stayed w SPG because it was so good. Even during those first few yrs when I was on a shoestring and dirt poor, I kept requalifying for spg. Then to have Marriott acquire... I switched to Hyatt that first yr of full integration and barely stay at Marriott now.

I would like very much to be LTG. I just don't think I'll get there with the spend requirement anytime soon. And just seeing how AIs and Urcoves seem to be the development, I'm hesitant to spend and would rather just use points.

I was really upset at the loss of SPG.

It's be a nice incentive if Hyatt added the ability for us to track our progress towards LTG. Since I have no idea where I am towards progress, there is no extra oomph to switch nights from other chains.

It can be tracked by using the monthly account summary which states your lifetime base points.

That's awesome. What's your strategy and how did you get there as a leisure traveler?

Spending, spending, spending…

Just joking. I live in Singapore now and i frequently use Damai SPA service in GH Singapore. During pandemic, Hyatt has three time points promotion. I bought hundreds SPA packages which help a lot for my LT globalist. But.. GH Singapore renovated after I bought for over 3 years. Even it opened last year, Damai Spa remains close now without opening notice.

And there is great Singapore credit card with over 5k SGD annual fee which has a special perk: stay two nights and pay one night for many luxury hotels around the world. It helps me for high-end Hyatt stay.

I am a (mostly) leisure LTG as well - prob 90% leisure and the rest business.
Started in June of 1992 and made LTG in Sep of 2019. Have been very fortunate to be able to travel many places with my wife and our daughters and stayed almost exclusively with Hyatt during that time (with a few RCs & FS sprinkled in)
While Hyatt may not be perfect, I must say that I am extremely happy with my experience and status - clear intangible (and tangible) benefits at virtually every Hyatt as a LTG.
FS may (sometimes) be a notch up over PH or Alila (although sometimes it is not) in some locations, I have found that staying at a Luxury level Hyatt with status is FAR superior to being just a regular guest at FS.

i stayed at Hyatt from 1998 but at that time I was stupid. I did not know loyalty program. I bought some Hyatt Club package then which did not accumulate points but some free night certs and dinning benefit like two for 50% and three for 33% off. Until 2009 I moved back to states and got a Chase card. I tried to figure out how to use 60k signing bonus. A whole new world opened to me. I wasted over 10 years business travel. I reached LT globalist on 2020 after 10 years. I should be there 10 years earlier.

If I hold a celebration event at a Hyatt, does the cost go toward LT status?

You would have to negotiate this with the event coordinator — typically not. I had my wedding recently at a Park Hyatt — nothing towards base. The Hyatt CC might be handy for bonus points.

Also, lots of jurisdictions don’t award points for alcohol which is a big part of event spend.

There’s also an event promo of like 2 EQN for every 5k spend.
