In the current economic climate--you may want to add two years to the stated date.
the garden inn new delhi was originally due to open march 09 & it finally opened december 09....similarly, the hilton new delhi was due to open june 09 & it is now scheduled to open its doors next month....

I've stayed in both of them and I'd say they are probably equidistant from your destination. Can't speak to whether the drive times would be the same, but do allow plenty of time. Traffic is pretty bad.

The Hilton is a nicer property IMO, although the HGI is in a nicer area. If you're just there for business, I'd pick the Hilton.

You might PM saad, who lives in Delhi.

I'd suggest calling HHonors to get that information.

Which Hilton in New Delhi?

I have noted there are 3 Hilton branded hotels in New Delhi: Eros; Mayur Vihar and Janakpuri: I cant find any thread on the prios and cons of each; Does anyone here have a favourite?

Interestingly enough, the thread positioned immediately above yours when I looked was this one: Hilton New Delhi Janakpuri.

In New Delhi, price, accommodations and location are fairly important; getting around and moving long distances because one chooses only by amenities but has business across town is wearing.

Well- this is a conversation we couldn't have had a few years ago- good on Hilton for building a presence.

Agree location trumps all else in Indian cities- you don't want to spend hours getting from your hotel to where you want/need to be to get a few points or lounge access.

I think the Eros property used to be an IC. I stayed there once and wasn't impressed.

Although not HH I would recommend the CP in Gurgaon if you have business out there.

I did 2 New Delhi trip reports just this week, one property you didn't note:

Hilton New Delhi / Janakpuri

Hilton Garden Inn / New Delhi Saket

I also had a meeting a few buildings up from the newly re-branded Eros by Hilton, so I got my car to stop for a look-see - and the place looked tired.

I only stayed at the Jankapuri, in June last year. Top 3 or floors were still being built but despite that really fantastic service. Even drove my credit card to the airport when I left it at reception. Brand new (air conditioned) metro is right outside and only 30 mins to city.

Nice pool good service, highly recommended.

I'd stay the Eros Nehru Place...I'm actually writing this from there. The rooms aren't that great but the location and service are good and the price is well below what it should be because they are still in the transition from IC to Hilton. They also give a ton of benefits to Hilton Gold...I get free breakfast, club access, 25% points bonus, no health club fee (not that I ever use it), and internet. The website says the only benefit here is free internet so I was pleasantly surprised.

I have delayed visiting India (as a tourist), in hopes that HH will develop a significant presence with some excellent properties in the major tourist areas.

It seems to me that I'll have to wait a while longer...
