From the letter:

Discounted point amount needed for a four night reward stay book on or after June 15, 2013.

For hotels that moved from Category 5, 6 or 7 to Category 8, 9 or 10 as part of the recent modifications, you will not receive a discounted redemption benefit at those hotels for bookings made prior to June 15, 2013.

There's more info but everyone should be getting their letter soon.
So no change to the AXON5, AXON6, and AXON7 rates?

The AXON8 and AXON9 rates are higher than I had predicted and hoped, but the AXON10 is within 5k of my expectation. I had predicted/hoped for 175, 215, 295 to put them slightly above low season and at a good discount from high season. Because of the very low low-season rates at many of the cat8 and cat9 properties, I think the AXON for those categories are too high.

I imagine in a few days or weeks, posters here and the bloggers will find some really good high-season opportunities with this. In the end, it's a better than 20% discount on a 4-night stay during high season, so I'm glad Amex and HHonors extended the benefit to the new categories. 5 nights in one place isn't my norm for travel. 4 is much more often the case.

Cat 8:
70K regular high season
4 nts at 55K AXON
5 nts at 56K VIP

Cat 9:
80K regular high season
4 nts at 65K AXON
5 nts at 64K VIP

Cat 10:
95K regular high season
4 nts at 75K AXON
5 nts at 76K VIP
I agree that the AXON has no value. I am surprised Amex is letting it happen because Amex has this as the only benefit over Citi on HHonors. Might as well go with Citi's credit cards.

Right you are. The Citi Reserve gives Gold as long as you own the card, and it has 0% forex fee. The AMEX Surpass only offers Gold the first year and it carries 3% forex fee.

For long-weekend trips, it's nice to be able to stay four nights instead of five as the standard VIP rates require.

Wow, that seriously blows.
Cat 6/7 going from 125k/140k to 160k/190k.

It also looks same as VIP.
Cat 6: 50k high season, 160k with VIP
Cat 7: 60k high season, 192k with VIP

I guess it's only good if we want 4 nights, instead of 5 nights with VIP. Otherwise, there's no benefit at all

Well, this just aligns with the suckage recently implemented by HH. I am thankful we have until June 15 to wipe out the rest of our HH points, which is longer than non-AX holders.....

I think this yet another round of devaluation deserves a separate thread to alert people.

It's worse: we have category inflation PLUS cost increases for AXON.

I stopped spending on my Hilton Amex weeks ago. Points still have some worth, and I'll probably still churn the Citi Hilton Visa occasionally, but the value proposition for earning from card spend is gone.

The entire screen shot of the new hilton Honors Axon award chart has been posted on my blog at TheMrPickles.

It is not pretty.

Ouch.

So, in some cases, AXON awards could end up costing MORE than regular awards. Sheesh.
