I didn’t say it was a Hertz employee CDP, he works for Hertz and said by using that CDP it would guarantee low rates.

Using corp CDP makes smaller cars available

I'll be renting a car for two days at Sacramento airport, landing time is about 48 hours from now. I'm "Gold Plus Five Star" and I usually use my Amex Platinum CDP because it seems to always give the best rate I can find. Yesterday when I went to reserve a car, it showed that all cars up to full size were unavailable, and what was available (Premium, SUVs etc) was very expensive - over $100/day. This morning I checked again, same situation. I tried some other CDP's and when I entered IBM's CDP (40000) suddenly Compact/Int/Std/Full sizes are all available at very reasonable rates.

I understand that using a corporate code when I'm not really an employee is risky. In this case it'll probably work to collect the car since I'm picking up at an airport and I won't have to go to the counter - but I could be in a bad spot if I get into an accident.

Is there any way around this? If the IBM code "unlocks" all the smaller cars, they must actually be physically available, so is there any other code (that I can more legitimately use) likely to make them available too?

As you probably surmised, one benefits of the IBM CDP is guaranteed availability even when they are sold out. Also, keep in mind that the IBM contract has very reasonable fixed rates, so it's hard to predict what the Amex Platinum CDP will yield, but you can always ask before they switch it.

Uh-huh. Sure. There's zero chance it's your CDP, and, even if it were, you certainly wouldn't be recommending it here because you hope people will use it so you earn free rental days. Zero chance.

Also, a quick check shows that code delivering notably worse rates than, say the AAA or United Mileage Plus CDP.

That is a pretty significant piece of information. The LDW is still worthless (or even worse than worthless), though, since if you are in an accident, and Hertz discovers that you aren't actually an employee of Clive Christian Furniture, they'll void the code, and the included CDW. Since credit card LDW isn't valid if you accept rental car company LDW, then the credit card cover wouldn't apply either.

Best PC, RQ and CDP for Rewards Redemption?

Thoughts on which PCs, RQs and CDPs combine well with free rentals? For instance, I know the AmEx Platinum CDP includes a four-hour grace period. Thanks!
