Outbound is J7, so they are selling seats (but only Flex+ as they know the'll sell them), but I agree it's quite full and not much chance of miles upgrades becoming available. Maybe on board when all is done and dusted.

Y is far from oversold at this stage (we don't know for when this is) as they are still selling K and Q buckets. But that's really all that not relevant to the question.

Y looks quite full too...

Lots of Y being open doesn't mean it's not full...when it's 0's it's overbooked and stop sale.

Thanks - out of interest, is there anything else that can be inferred from the above numbers (aside from 162 looking full)?

162 is quite full in all classes, likely oversold in Y and will go out full in all three classes.

360 is a two-class, relatively full by the looks of it, but not yet oversold, probably have a few open seats in the end, but not many (my guess), hard to say how full the J cabin on that flight is, as 7 is the maximum availability displayed for J, so it could be wide open, it might be half full.

Pretty hard to say how empty a flight is from the Expertflyer load, as seats available for sale is never shown as higher than 9, so 9 could mean 9 or 19 or 90.

That being said this flight looks semi-full given no T, V or X availability, though as it is last minute that may also be the reason. Looking at the seat map there are several center rows which are completely open, probably about 40-50 open seats in total, see seat map below. What I'd recommend is to change your seat assignment now to an aisle in one of those rows, trick will be to prevent someone self-switching to the opposite aisle, to be fair the kind thing to do is to just go for 2 seats, there's probably enough open seats that pretty much everyone can get 2 (or 1.5 in the sets of 3 along the windows, open middle):

Too far out to tell, and emptiness is difficult to predict, as one can't tell if more than 9 seats are for sale. Equally due to seat selection fees the seat map will probably be wide open now but fill up automatically when OLCI opens

Not too early but the flight load can't show you how empty the plane is, purely whether it's >95% or not.

Depends on where you go to for your info I think. Flightstats used to use 4s and 7s on some routes.

Pretty sure this info came from ExpertFlyer, and this is how the info is distributed by the GDS, which goes up to 9 for Y fares and 7 for J fares and 4 for F fares typically

Yes, skywardhunter is correct. The load info came from ExpertFlyer and it does go up to 9. I mistakenly read the 7s as full but in reality they were showing 7 remaining to sell. So in the end, Scotty does stand a fairly good chance if he is looking to get the op-up from Y to J.

Except J only has 4 seats left and F only 1, so they might be full
