Sdcorreia Jan 8, 2017 7:48 am

Touched base with call center half an hour before OLCI open and confirmed:
- oversold Y
- 3 seats available in J but not reward
- I'm only GOLD in Y

For now, I can't check in through App. Says I must check in at airport.
Smells like op-up. My questions are:
1 - Having I checked the auto upgrade option in "manage my booking", will they get my miles or no?
2 - Shall I get to airport as early as possible or can I relax and make it efficiently 1,5 to 1 Hr before boarding?

Thanks again...

Once OLCI opens no need for award inventory. You can upgrade based on any seat being available. Op-up is an operational upgrade and complimentary. No miles. If you want to ensure you get an upgrade pay with cash or miles.

As for Gold in Y, it helps but beware that priority is first by fare type (Flex Plus before Flex etc) and within fare type by status. Personally as Gold I've found I can still get upgraded on Flex fares but it depends completely on the route, time of year and pax profile. Some routes (e.g. heavy on business travellers) are likely to have more Flex Plus pax (and more status pax in general).

i used to think this was the case but not if the flight is busy.

I flew back with antdentale from here, I was in F he was in J. 2 seats left in F they wouldn't release them...even in the lounge.

He got the seat at the gate and miles were deducted. Same thing for a friend travelling back from Cpt - only got the upgrade at the gate and miles deducted.

Hm, that sounds like its because they're not sure yet of op-up numbers and thus holding for op-ups, but even then, at the gate or on-board upgrade is possible if space available.

The line given on the manchester flight was that they were waiting for last minute revenue passengers...

It seems space available isn't available when it suits.

Theres a new app that could help with all of these requests (also available as a website)

stafftraveler and the website of the same name

Its essentially a load sharing app, you put in your request then someone from that airline replies generally quite quickly. Its based on credits so if you respond to requests, like I do, then I get free credits to ask loads for on other airlines. You can also buy credits for, I think, 5 for EUR5,00.

Sure, you'll have to pretend you work for an airline to sign up for it, but you don't have to respond to the load requests.

Great app. I spend my nightshifts responding to requests :)

I'm 2 for 2 on my space available upgrade requests at DXB Business lounge, usually 3+ hours pre departure. No upgrade available on the flight when checking beforehand, but a determined staff member kept phoning people until she got a seat released on this morning's DXB to LGW. F went out about 8/14 - and I got a great night's sleep and some Dom!.

My other success was last September DXB to JFK - had been trying for an award seat in F for ages, got one at the lounge, and I'm pretty sure F went out full that flight.

Now, back to the real world and waiting in Gatwick for an Easyjet to Belfast :(

Yeah so they are making people wait until the last minute to confirm even though your flight went 8/14...

Flight Loading

Hello everyone, I am flying from PER-LHR via DXB on Saturday and was wondering if anyone on here has access to check the loading on the flights as my wife and I were hoping to bag an empty seat between us. Were both only Skywards Blue and flying in Y as were not lucky enough to fly J.

EK425 then EK5

Thanks if anyone can help.

aceboy44 Jan 18, 2017 8:31 pm

You can check yourself:

Good to know that is a thing but isn't that just what I see on the Emirates seat selection screen anyway? I was hoping for an idea on how full the flight is actually going to be.

Hi ItzEddie

Welcome to the EK forum where you will find a wealth of information on flying Emirates. Please make yourself at home and enjoy the experience.

We already have a thread going about flight loads so I will ask the Mods to merge this thread. As Aceboy44 points out, you can check on Expertflyer yourself with a free subscription but this only shows what seats have been selected at the point of checking and does not indicate the actual loads. This is only definitive at a certain point before the flight which I think was posted as between 48-72hours. There are paid subscriptions, which again will only show what seats the airline is willing to sell and does not give a definitive answer.

Safe & Happy Travels

This will be moved, but as I have the info up for you, I can post it here. Remember this doesn't show the load (only Emirates staff have access to this - and you will not get it unless you know someone). What this shows is what prices / seats Emirates would be prepared to sell you if you lived in the UK! But it gives you a good general feel.

PER DXB
21/0540 1240 EK 425
F4 A4 J7 C7 I0 OC P7 Y9 E9 R9 W9 M9 B9 U9 K9 H9 QC LC TC VC GC XC

DXB LHR
21/1605 2000 EK 5
F4 A4 J7 C7 I0 OC PC Y9 E9 R9 W9 M9 B9 U9 K9 H9 QC LC TC VC GC XC

What this tells me is that the flights are busy, but not overly packed in Y & J, and impossible to read in F but somewhere between empty to middling!

I will also add that Emirates are the only airline i've been on that has shown something similar on the day of departure for me, and then subsequently been oversold by 40 people at check-in. They manage their loads very well!

Y Seats available for pre-booking: PER-DXB = 233, DXB-LHR = 150

I think you've a great chance of getting a row of 3 for 2 of you on PER-DXB and less so on DXB-LHR.

Happy flying, and do report back

Thomas

Can't tell you the load but many Y seats still for sale in most fare buckets except deep discount. J has 4 seats for sale and F 2. I wouldn't count on an op-up, I'd also imagine NCE to be premium-heavy.

Lastly you don't mention your ticket fare type (Flex Plus, Flex etc), as this is the first criteria by which pax are ranked before status is considered.

Hey!

Hey skywards hunter!

thanks for the reply! We are on flex plus. I think our connection to cok Sunday early morning (21st) is over sold though. EK 530.

Yes it looks that way. All Y classes zeroed out with J and F available.

thomasincharge5 May 20, 2017 7:34 am

Just checked in from nice. This flight is empty in economy. However, The manager on ground shared info that dxb-cok flight is oversold by 35 in economy. We are 5th on priority list for upgrade. Business only 20 paid PAX & Only 8 Gold's in economy. Loads of lucky economy peeps will have a happy flight!

How do you know you are 5th?

It doesn't matter about golds it's all about who is on flex or flex plus tickets

Most India flights have tons of op-ups with few status pax

Also for me !!!! I'm traveling from Bologna (BLQ) to Dubai (DXB) on EK94 on 30 May 2017 in Economy (Y) how is the load on this flight ???

As mentioned up-thread several times only EK staff have access and only in the 72hours before departure, so not yet for 30 May.

An easy way for you to see an indication yourself is with the website expertflyer.com, free trial and just $10/month thereafter. Here you can see how many seats the airline will sell, but since they oversell it is not a perfect way to see the load of a flight.

I knew I was 5th on the priority list cause the Emirates ground manager on duty checked on her system (the green text/black screen!) and told me. I was on a Flex Plus ticket and am on Gold Status.

Here's a guess: >100 seats in Y, >15 seats in J and > 5 seats in F available, possibly quite a bit more than that even. As m3red says, way too far out.

Thanks ! Hopefully a op-up on the cards from Y-J if my auto-upgrade doesn't come through on EK770.

Thanks a lot.
I'm quite new to this so what does that mean in reality?
Was pondering the £380 business upgrade.

It means if you are gold and on a flex/flex plus seat you'll have a good chance of an upgrade.

If you want to guarantee it, pay the money.

Hi there,

Please could someone check:

EK160 OSL to DXB 18/08/17

Thanks!
