My flight tomorrow is Y9 but already oversold by 3. Seats for sale is not a reliable determinator. In fact EK will oversells by as much as 20-30 even in some cases.

Was looking at my return flight from DXB to LGW on 30 August (EK11) and they aren't selling any economy tickets, does that mean they have oversold?

Most likely. In my experience EK will sell all available Y seats + all available J seats + all available F seats as Y seats (i.e. if there are 3 seats open in F, 10 in J and 10 in Y EK will sell a further 23 Y seats) +/- whatever their forecast says will still be sold, which is quite accurate.

That means it may be oversold in Y, it may just be sold out exactly, with the expectation that there will also be full J and F cabins, it may also open up again if the forecast sales in J and F don't meet expectations or if someone cancels in Y.

A lot of movement on loads takes place in short spaces of time, For a flight on the 30th it is impossible to confirm now that it will be oversold, even if it is right now.

Hey guys,

Flying DXB LAX next week! Found this on expertlfyer:

EK 215 0 DXB
08/19/17 8:55 AM LAX
08/19/17 1:55 PM 388
Daily
29% / 35m

F4 A4 J7 C7 I7 O7 P0 Y2 E2 R2 W0 M0 B0 U0 K0 H0 Q0 L0 T0 V0 X0

What is the likeliness of op-ups (Y-J specifically)? Ive never been able to gauge the likeliness of one!

Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks :)

Thanks skywardhunter! So 2-3 days ago they were showing Y as sold out. Now they are selling seats again.

They will even if it's oversold if there are seats in J and F - they will sell what they can get the loads out full.

Me too! Friend travelling in Y, silver and on flex plus. Fingers crossed!

simonoch Aug 12, 2017 9:20 am

If the flight is very overbooked in economy there might be 15/20 op-up ;
there's usually a few no-shows / rebooking (especially in J)

Doesn't matter. Gold, Silver and Blue are upgraded as per ticket price, not status (unless there are several people with the same fare bucket). There aren't too many Flex+ buyers though I would assume.

gorbatzjov Aug 12, 2017 10:50 am

Anyone knows what's going on on the DXB-IAH flights? haven't seen Y availability for pretty much the entire month, while IAH-DXB shows plenty available even in Y Saver.

I'm flying 17/8 DXB-IAH on Bus Flex ticket. Any ideas how my opup chances are (Gold), or is it too soon to tell? EF says F4 A3 J5 C5 I0 O0 P0 Y0 E0 R0 W0 M0 B0 U0 K0 H0 Q0 L0 T0 V0 X0 so probably some upgrades from Y to J... Is the flight Plat heavy?

Decent, there'll probably be oversell in Y equivalent to total available seats in J AND F, so op-ups Y to J as well as J to F. That being said, EK are experts at load and revenue management so the flight might end up going out with no or barely any op-ups. On a Flex ticket as Gold you could be anywhere between 3rd to 6th in the list, but that's just a guess.

No dice for a free upgrade. They did offer an upgrade for £385 though.

And the Reason why they didn't was because people paid for it and there were people higher in the queue / it wasn't that oversold in the end.

EK573 Kolkata/Dubai on August 18th

Assuming you're gold, it depends on the fare bucket of your ticket (special, saver, flex, flex+). I don't know the Kolkata - Dubai flights but from the above I think your chances are nil. Then again, 18th is still a long way ahead...

Seriously, what's up with DXB-IAH flights... I booked about 2 weeks ago and nothing in Y was free. I kept on checking every day on EF and nothing... Till today: F4 A3 J7 C7 I0 O0 P0 Y9 E9 R9 W9 M9 B9 U0 K0 H0 Q0 L0 T0 V0 X0
Strategic move of Emirates to increase the price?

The flight may be oversold, as only higher fare Y tickets remain for sale. It's hard to tell, I hope this thread doesn't become an eternal cycle of "how are my chances" and "we don't know" because ultimately, no one knows.

No seats available to choose!

Hi all,

I have just tried to check in for my Emirates flight and there are no seats available at all for me to choose. There were 3 but then I logged in later to conplete it and there were 0. What is likely to happen when I get to the airport tomorrow? Bumped off?

I am continuing my journey in a weeks time and notice all the seats have been pre-selected for me. Ideally I would like an exit row as I'm 6ft 5... will have to ask at check in for those flights.

any advice would be appreciated.

So you don't have any assigned seat for this upcoming flight? Your post isn't quite clear. If you already have one assigned and there are no others to choose then you'll have to wait for check-in. Same goes for you not having any assignment yet. At check-in exit rows will be opened up, so there are definitely blocked seats which won't be assigned yet.

In my experience, when a flight is full, Exit seats might be assigned 1 to 2 days before departure.

Sorry if I was unclear, 3 out of 4 of my flights have a seat already assigned. However the first one says incomplete and when I go to select one, none are available.

They'll find you a seat at check-in, no worries. The flight is probably overbooked and some PAX will be upgraded to make room.

What's your fare type ? (Special/Saver/Flex/Flex Plus)

mrog88 Aug 14, 2017 7:23 am

Thanks for that.

It's a flex fare

I want to upgrade the flex tickets via miles but I see no D availability, when there there are many O seats available. If D availability does not open up online, can I still upgrade our flights with miles using miles out of my father's account?(im assigned as a travel coordinator in his skywards account)

and lastly, since I booked flex tickets, would we still have a higher chance of an op-up even though our flex tickets were only like $100?

Sounds like you've already checked or have access if you can see D and O availability.

You can upgrade once OLCI opens, but not sure about using someone else's account. once OLCI opens it's based on space available, perhaps by calling you'd be able to use his account, though there have been reports of EK not processing space-available upgrades until boarding in hopes of selling the seats.

The physical USD cost of the ticket is irrelevant to op-ups, it's ranked as follows:

1. All Plats (sub-ranked by fare type and fare bucket)
2. All Flex Plus (sub-ranked by status first and fare bucket next)
3. All Flex (sub-ranked by status first and fare bucket next)
4. All Saver (sub-ranked as per 3.)
5. All Special (sub-ranked as per 3.)

fare bucket = the single-letter fare bucket identifier, e.g. Y, W, M, T, etc. If it was a mistake fare and you're in Flex you're probably in a decent fare bucket, I don't think the USD or base fare cost ever ranks in, except maybe in a fare bucket tie.

A dummy booking just now shows only 3 economy seats being offered on EK28 (either as a single trip or with a return in a couple of weeks).

Married with EK384 there's none.

simons1 Aug 14, 2017 7:46 pm

Is there something odd with EK systems tonight? Earlier I priced up a LGW-JNB return (out 20th bank 26th) in Y at £860 and it gave me a choice of flights/times.

3 hours later every flight ex London for 3 days is full in Y??? And every flight ex JNB on 26th.

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 12:35 pm.
