Does this mean people have not selected seats ? Since Emirates now charge and it’s only free 48hrs before Departure? Usually this flight is always packed

This shows that there are seats for sale in fare buckets as low as ‘K’, which is quite a cheap bucket (I think it’s the lowest Flex bucket but I may be wrong). From this one may infer that - at the moment I checked - there was plenty availability. Of course it remains a snapshot and can change. But if EK’s algorithms (which are pretty good) predicted a full flight, they would probably not be prepared sell seats at relatively low fares. |

Its really quite a bit too early to check this much in advance as the load will certainly change a lot in the coming weeks. So I generally don’t check this early. If you want to check on a regular basis, I recommend that you get a subscription to Expert Flyer which costs $9.99 for a month. It can very easily be switched on and off on a monthly basis so no cost when you don’t need it. And you can get a free 5 day trial too.

My flight a few days ago was showing sold out from 3 days out, you could only purchase J. I was on a later flight but was trying to change to a earlier departure. Five hours out EF showed two seats available in Y, I called EK only to be told it was sold out. An hour later I called again to change my flight to an earlier one from a different London location but on the off chance I once again enquired about the flight I wanted earlier which was sold out. To my surprise there were seats available and after I booked I checked EF which was showing Y9 and also flex ticket available. However on MMB I could not select a seat and it was showing every seat was taken.
My second flight was a 2 class and as a guess the flight was full without the rear upstairs Y being available. This must have changed at the last minute as when I boarded there were several empty rows free in the rear but everywhere else was full. I was lucky and got a row of four to myself, but this highlights how much of a lottery checking flights loads is. Prior to arriving at the airport I was fairly confident of op-ups the whole way! |

Be aware that with over 2 weeks to go, things may well change. Strangely enough, the seat map shows many (33) J seats unallocated (this is normal for the Y cabin but not that usual for J), so this 'sold out' may be some group booking or they keep the cabin 'empty' for something they expect. Not much other light I can shed on this. Maybe someone else can? |

I read that business saver and upgrade seats come out of the same bucket does anyone know if that’s true? So if the Emirates website is still showing lots of business saver tickets on sale for a flight 30 days out there’s a chance those seats might be made available for y to j upgrade using miles later? (If not sold prior)

The upgrades we normally talk about book in D bucket (as do award tickets). There is something called a ‘business flex award’ which books in O, but that is not an upgrade, it’s an award (not sure how this works, I have never seen it on the miles calculator on the Emirates website). So the short answer is no, O availability will not directly link to upgrade availability. |
