Ours is greyed out - but it stated we could only upgrade at check-in right from the beginning anyway.

And tickets definitely still say 'Saver'.

If you originally purchased the ticket before the fare changes it's best to make any changes through the call center, as any future changes puts the ticket onto the new system/fare types when they get revalidated.

However, EK will still honor the old rates if you call them.

Its annoying that when you do advanced search ie into one airport and out of another you can't chose fare type online.

So I wanted flex plus DXB MAN LGW DXB and it would only give me a flex saver combo - no good when I wanted to use 60k points to upgrade to J.

I had to call which I'm guessing cost me more money!

It might already be mentioned, but I miss the "Previous Day" and "Next Day" buttons when going through the booking process.

Also having to go back to the initial screen to get the +/-3 days option after changing dates.

just noticed that Swiss is using the exact same system EK is using. Who had it first? And yes that you can't select the fare type with multi city is stupid but I let me TA book R class for me.

Pretty sure that Swiss had it first.

The fare changes, are they that bad? I haven't noticed any drastic changes to price, in some cases it's cheaper than before, did this only hit those that are booking/upgrading with miles more than Biz/First passengers?

In terms of actual cash fares, it doesn't seem so: I think the pricing is much more affected by the competitive pressures they are facing on quite a few routes, as well as falls in oil etc. Also, ex-UK, the reduction in Air Passenger Duty for this new fiscal year seems to be quite noticeable, especially on Y fares, for example, I just saw LHR-BKK for next month going for 374 GBP all-in - haven't seen something like that since 2008-9!

But the main negatives are vastly reduced earning potential on restricted Y/J fares and the increase in upgrade costs: not too different to the general devaluations that happen every few years on all programs. They just took the opportunity to overhaul the booking engine at the same time, which has its pluses and minuses!

What I can see is that EY is better for fares ex AUH than EK ex DXB. However flights ex EU or ex US, looks like EK would be better

@mods any way to format the text? preview looks fine, afterwards its a mess

If you put it in a code block it will perhaps look how you want it

start with [ code] and end with [/ code] ( without the spaces )

Thanks Dave. My idea was that everything is a little bit structured like with tabulators (or similar) so that someone can see the difference easier.
