The fare changes, are they that bad? I haven't noticed any drastic changes to price, in some cases it's cheaper than before, did this only hit those that are booking/upgrading with miles more than Biz/First passengers?
In terms of actual cash fares, it doesn't seem so: I think the pricing is much more affected by the competitive pressures they are facing on quite a few routes, as well as falls in oil etc. Also, ex-UK, the reduction in Air Passenger Duty for this new fiscal year seems to be quite noticeable, especially on Y fares, for example, I just saw LHR-BKK for next month going for 374 GBP all-in - haven't seen something like that since 2008-9!
But the main negatives are vastly reduced earning potential on restricted Y/J fares and the increase in upgrade costs: not too different to the general devaluations that happen every few years on all programs. They just took the opportunity to overhaul the booking engine at the same time, which has its pluses and minuses!
