How 2 daily European routes, that would take 2 planes too, unless i am missing something?

Actually not. You need to take into account the utilization of the whole fleet, the whole schedule, and how much "downtime" they currently have in DXB, after you take away routine line maintenance, cleaning, re-stocking/fueling, etc., etc.. A European turnaround takes about 16 hours, while a NA turnaround takes from 34 to 36 hours, and an aircraft needs on average about 2 hours on the ground in DXB between flights. It's much easier to fit in a shorter turnaround. It's one of the reasons they just announced upgaging some of the BEY flights using a 77L a few days a week (about a 10 hour turnaround), so that they can get better utilization of aircraft that otherwise would be sitting on the ground in DXB. By checking out a site such as flightradar24.com you can plug in the individual frame registrations and get the information of which aircraft flew what routes at what timings over the past week. It's quite easy to plot it all on a sheet and get an idea of how they schedule the fleet. One schedule quirk that sticks out is the amount of time aircraft operating EK707/708 sit in SEZ. Almost 10 1/2 hours!

A quirk that I expect someone at network operations has been itching to sort out for a while (and is waiting for new routes and airframes to arrive!) as it messes up his beautiful spreadsheets!

It's all about connectivity patterns at the DXB hub and establishing a connection between SEZ and the main morning European departure wave. Unless EK starts a third daily SEZ (which has just become less likely with the capacity upgauge from A332 to B77W), I would expect this long ground time to stick around.

They could do an EK384 and hope to find some sort of SEZ add-on flight within 3hrs flight time but difficult to find anything profitable, I think...

DXB SEZ TNR would be your most obvious solution and the two would combine well as they feature similar connectivity patterns.

I agree - although I don't know how much demand there would be between SEZ and TNR - any through traffic TNR-SEZ-DXB (or even TNR-SEZ-DXB-xxx) is just going to cannibalise capacity on SEZ-DXB-xxx routes at a presumably lower yield which might defeat the purpose of the extra utilisation!

I agree. Most likely would be a 3rd daily SEZ with all 3 flights being A330s some time early in 2016. That would IMHO strike the best balance. A TNR add-on sounds interesting, but like mentioned the yield balance would be key.

A big surprise, at least for me!!

I thought the A380 two class would be used for CAN, MNL or CGK before any european destination!

Anyone seen a seat layout for this yet? Where's the bar?

Edit : 8000th post, and it had to be about the bar... Appropriate I think.

The 2-class B77W that comes off the CPH route will go to SGN, apparently allowing for the withdrawal of one the A343 frames.
