I wonder what's EK's strategy to add to their Africa routes - Gaborone? JRO? One more frequency per day to JNB?

I flew A380 DXB-ZRH on 2nd May in business and flight was completely full with 2 First seats empty. The second flight on the same day was overbooked in all classes.

Return on 380 on 5th May was about 2/3 rd full in Y and J. Only about a couple of dozen passengers got off at Dubai. Presume rest were all in transit to onward destinations.

Could it be that Swiss does not provide good flights/connections that makes EK so busy on ZRH route?

Swiss flies direct to only 12 destinations in Asia (including DXB and Muscat). For everywhere else you have to transit and switch carriers, often to a non-premium airline. EKs network in Asia-Pacific is very dense. Hence all the transit passengers and full flights. The alternative is flying to another European hub first.

Bet this route goes double-daily A380 in the next 12 months as well.

Mexico City freighter service all set to begin....

Emirates launches weekly Mexico service

Emirates SkyCargo has become the latest global airfreight operator to introduce a new service to Mexico City in response to the country’s booming export industry. The carrier has introduced a weekly service from Dubai to Mexico City, calling at Frankfurt and returning via Houston and Copenhagen. It will operate with B777 freighters, which are capable of carrying up to 103 tonnes of cargo.

Following from my previous post....

Mexico DGAC: Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates and Turkish Airlines interested in A380 to Mexico City

23-May-2014 3:01 PM

Mexico's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) director Alexandro Argudín said four carriers are interested in operating the A380 to Mexico City, including Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates and Turkish Airlines (Reportur, 22-May-2014).

As previously reported by CAPA, runway works to allow the airport to handle the superjumbo are slated for 2014, though a timeframe has yet to be announced. Emirates and Turkish Airlines do not currently serve the Mexican capital, Lufthansa operates daily service from Frankfurt with Boeing 747-8s and five times weekly service from Munich with A340-600s, while Air France operates daily service from Paris with 747-400 equipment, according to OAG.

Air France, Lufthansa and Emirates currently operate the A380.

Only thing is for Emirates to serve MEX it needs a stop somewhere. I'd say in the US. It can go DXB-JFK-MEX, DXB-BOS-MEX, DXB-IAD-MEX, or even DXB-MIA-MEX. Pretty much the only way we will see Emirates at MEX.

As for the A380. I can't see Lufthansa, Emirates, and Turkish send the A380 to MEX. I can see Air France but that's about it.

Agreed. MIA would be a good choice and a potential way to start a new route using an A380!

Alternatively, EK has fifth freedom rights from Spain as well, so BCN or MAD might be other alternatives, perhaps?

Emirates New Routes and Changes 2014

Trouble with a stop in the US is, that people going to MEX would still need to get off and go through US immigration. Which means having a Visa for many travellers. For instance, an Indian going from Delhi to Mexico has to get a US Visa even if he doesn't want to go to the US but straight to Mexico. I am not sure if Emirates wants to make its passengers go through such an ordeal, it would make the route much less attractive.

Turkish hasn`t any A380.

Can a 777/200LR fly non-stop DXB-MEX? I can`t see EK flying to MEX via USA.
As San Gottardo explained, it makes non sense.....but I can imagine through Europe.

This will a great relief for me when I connect from the late dep out of JFK. It used to be a long wait from 745 PM until 3 AM. Wish they would add another 380 flt though.

Could go DXB-HAV/SDQ/NAS/CUN-MEX as well. If the Mexican government allowed local traffic between MEX and MIA then EK would probably already have this one announced.
