Thanks for that - I was told by a colleague that Amex carries some sort of cover for travel and guarantee if things go wrong but the guys over at MBNA don't have the specifics to give to me over the phone. This would be ideal as you say in case if things go wrong with purchases.
I was told Amex also carries warranty for electronic products i.e. if you purchase a laptop with an Amex card, your automatically entitled to some sort of cover. If this is the case, why o why didn't I move to credit cards sooner!
Thanks Doc.

You are covered if you book with a credit card ( or even visa debit cards !!!,). Amex is great of you have a dispute with the retailer. They are more proactive than visa or mastercard.

Does it only give you lounge access in the country that your card is based? i.e. if I get a UK card, then I can only access their UK lounges. Or would it allow me to access lounges in other countries.... am just thinking about a forthcoming trip to Africa.
Good point about the additional card. I was thinking for the odd time my girlfriend flies with me (non-EK), that we would have to pay £15 for guest access, but yeah, at that rate it would make sense to just get her a card.... is there a minimum usage for the cards?

He said that he makes a purchase every few months just to keep them happy.

Is it Section 75 and Chargeback cover or do they provide practical help with re-booking, accommodation etc?

Yes - you get both an Amex and a Visa card linked to the same account with the same credit limit. You get more miles per £1 if you send on the Amex, but not all places take Amex. I've already got mine ,0)
AND you get 25% discount on the purchase of additional skywards miles - so if you need extra for an upgrade it makes sense - I was going to transfer some of my miles to my daughter's account but it makes more sense to just keep them in my account and buy some for hers once the discount is applied!

Even with the discount transferring will be cheaper surely.

Yes it works out slightly cheaper to just do a transfer, but then you would of course loose those miles to the other account, whereas for just a few more $'s you would get to keep your own miles - if any of that makes sense?
