Both type of accounts give you an AMEX and a VISA card. It is up to you to decide how to use them. The AMEX card gives you double the earning rate for Skywards miles.

I have used the system for 4 years with LloydsTSB Avios Amex/Mastercard combination and never had any problems, even when spending abroad. (except for the time I was declined due to going over my limit )

Is it worth it for using abroad? Don't overseas currency transaction charges negate any benefit?

Mrs Ukdoctor who I've made an additional card holder (so that her spend earns miles into my skywards account) got her PIN numbers today.

I still havent got the PIN numbers.

I still cant understand why they sent the PIN 's for the AMEX and the VISA cards separately but then have mentioned that the PIN's are the same !!!!

Only worth it if you would have used a CC anyway or if someone else is paying the bill.

I use a credit card with no overseas transaction fees. I've not done the arithmetic, but I would think overseas transaction fees on these cards would outweigh the benefit gained from the cards perks.

I would recommend the halifax clarity card, transfer in money as soon as you withdraw or you can be even more organised
as cash withdrawals are charged with daily interest, which is a very small sum anyway

I recommend the same. The Halifax Clarity. No Annual Fee and no transactions fees anywhere in the world. I will use the Skywards card in this country only.
