About 10 years ago I had oysters on the 1/2 shell and one of the best cheeseburgers I ever had at the Federal Tavern at PVD. I see it's still there...not sure if it's as good. I haven't been through PVD in a while.

*Gourmet sit-down places (like Gallagher's Steak House in the Newark Airport—I live in NY and I always go there if I have enough time before departure)
*Local restaurants with airport outposts (like Yankee Pier out in SF—has anyone had their lobster roll? is it any good?)
*Best authentic fast food (like an airport BBQ joint in a southern restaurant, hot dogs in Detroit, Clam Chowder in New England, Pizza/Bagels in New York, Mexican food near the border, etc.)
*Best Airport Bars (for the best booze, socializing, and view)
Also looking for Airport Hotel Restaurant recommendations (if they're in the terminal). I heard that Mister G's at the Dallas/Fort Worth Hyatt has really good food, and personal flat screen TVs--has anyone been?
Please include the details: what you ate, how pricey, and how good it was
And I'm looking to interview veteran business travelers with recommendations or airport food rituals.
Thanks for reading the long thread, looking forward to hearing from everyone!

Yes, I've had the lobster roll at Yankee Pier at SFO. It's delicious as are their crab cakes. The food in the food court/domestic terminal SFO offers great choices and reasonable prices. Perry's in the Delta terminal/SFO very good. Great choices in the int'l terminal at SFO too!
I've also had good experiences at Cinncinnati airport and Boston International Terminal.
Hope this helps!

For local flavour, the Employee's Food Court at SIN is great, pretty much as cheap as the hawker centres in town and it's open to the public too (even if it's not signposted). To find it in Terminal 1 just go down to the arrivals level where the Burger King is, then behind that towards the back of the terminal there's a doorway which you can go through - there's usually a steady stream of airport employees strolling in and out. Just follow the path down some stairs, round the corner, and voila - the opportunity for your final taste of any of the delights you've savoured while in town, and a full belly for under SG$5! .

Years ago, about 1970, I was taken to a restaurant
in the Huntsville, Alabama Airport that was outstanding.
As I recall, one went down a circular staircase to a small,
(maybe it sat 25-30 for dinner) restaurant. I think they had one seating per night. Limited menu-- prime beef,
good appetizers, great wine.
I thought it was funny to have such a good restaurant in an airport.
Is it still there?

The United terminal (7?) at SFO has the best food court I know of domestically. HKG has some very nice restaurants (with real silverware) including, strangely enough, a very good Italian pasta place.

Re: SFO ...
Just discovered the tastings at Wine Wisdom near gate 83.
They were pouring the entire Nickel & Nickel line as well
as the current Far Niente offerings. Someone must have
faith in the revenue-generating ability of United passengers!
Too bad I had only a few minutes to enjoy the Cabernets
(preferred the Nickel by a wide margin). This probably
counts as the best airport bev out there, although the food
is limited to water crackers and those Pepperidge Farm
butterfly-shaped things (a bad idea with wine).

Ditto on restaurants in SFO's international terminal and at MUC in Munich. I almost look forward to these airports. Great selection, surprisingly good food.

Goldstar Chili in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG), Concourse B. I definitely prefer Goldstar to Skyline when it comes to Cincinnati chili.
