Ooh and for us it’s called BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse. Still the same chain, yes?

We sat at the bar at a local brewery for a couple drinks. There’s a Chinese fast food place in the same shopping plaza. I ordered bourbon chicken for Mrs BV and a general Tso’s chicken for me. Got them home and they’re virtually indistinguishable. One was breaded, the other was not. Same red color. Same taste. Same pork fried rice, same broccoli.

turkey taco night

I was full from my luncheon so I ate a little. I still want to eat my cakes from Saturday.

Sysco ftw
i haven’t ever seen bourbon chicken at a Chinese restaurant. Does panda have it?
how are you able to drink alcohol and then drive home? No dui for you?

I really love getting wasted but like in Roger waters’ song 4 minutes, “you swear to yourself, you’ll never drink and drive”
so I need a driver else lyft-uber-taxi ftw.

Spacing out 26 ounces of beer over a couple hours - we were conversing with others at the bar while we drank - keeps me out of the danger zone. I don’t enjoy getting wasted and will stop or at least slow down before that happens.

Yes, the food was generic crap. All I really wanted was some salty rice and an egg roll. I shouldn’t have bothered with the main.

Just keep in mind, bourbon chicken isn't a chinese dish. up here I believe it's usually served in those food court settings... Caribbean related usually. Never saw it anywhere else.

It's not authentic Chinese, but I think it's a pretty common dish at Americanized Chinese spots and at food courts. My favorite Chicago food board had a long thread on it.

wow I learn new stuff daily here. Bourbon chicken. Yeah, decades of all kinds of Chinese food in San Francisco area and I never knew it until today. I look at menus. Thanks everyone. And of course glad that BamaVol doesn’t get dui :-)

So it's a Somalian-Chinese dish out of New Orleans! I didn't know that. one of these days I'll have to try it. I only know about it because when it got busy, my team and I would take turns running to the food court downstairs and pick up our collective orders and one of my teammates would insist on getting it. I've changed jobs since then but I still see it in food courts (well, before the pandemic).

Lately I've more been hankering for uyghur food, especially their skewers, but most of the restaurants I know of have permanently shut down.

Years ago, there was a chain in the food courts here in Pennsylvania called Bourbon Chicken. As I recall it was all Cajun types of food including jambalaya and gumbo, plus the namesake bourbon chicken. I don’t think that this chain still exists.

It’s very common most places I’ve lived in the southeast. Of course it’s no more Chinese than bourbon. But when it’s done well, it’s delicious. I’m all about flavor. I don’t give 2 sh*t’s about authenticity. I’m looking forward to reading the thread.

edited to add: I read 2 out of 3 pages and I must say there’s no snark like Chicago snark. Also the OP reminds me of someone here.

Taco salad. Last homemade dinner until next week, vacation starts tomorrow. Since I may not post much for the next week, here we go: Fresh shrimp, fish, oysters...repeat through Sunday night.
