Yesterday: 17 by Pinea, Ribera del Duero 2017. Second wine of relatively new Ribera producer Pinea, very good and should be better still in a year or two.

Today: Poderi Colla Langhe Riesling 2018. My first Italian Riesling, and although perfectly pleasant, there was nothing to stand out about it. A bit of a jack-of-all-trades, master of none, in Riesling terms.

Prisoner Blindfold white blend - it’s pretty good, seems like sauv blanc is the predominant grape, but I could be wildly off

We had Faustino I Gran Reserva 75 Aniversario 2009 with grilled lamb yesterday.

A terrific wine with a very modest price for the high quality, as always from this producer.

Some recently consumed wines with good value, nothing more than $20/bottle:
Mitolo “Jester” Shiraz - $19
Quatro Rayas Verdejo - $10
Mestizaje, an organic white blend of Merseguera, Malvasia & Viognier - $12.50
Schlosskellerei Gobelsburg “Cistercian” Rosé - $18
Domaine des Granges Mâcon Fuisse - $16

You can find very enjoyable wines at a range of price points.

I had a $16 2016 CdP from Grocery Outlet yesterday. I was there to buy a bunch of this red from Portugal ($4.99 - a great "whenever" drinker") and the wine guy suggested the CdP, so I tried one. Very nice. I'll probably go pick up another one or two before they run out.

Certainly a good price point. Was there any more information on the domaine?

A tasting menu with accompanying wines for our first trip away in almost a year.

We started with a cold dry sake which worked well as an aperitif with the amuse-gueules.

With the appetisers we had a Zorah Voski, a white wine from Armenia made with native grapes, it was not unlike an Albariño, quite dry, but a bit more floral like a Viognier.

We followed with a Moulin à Vent that I didn’t catch the label of, but which was a step up from a standard Beaujolais, it had more depth.

We then moved to the Alpha Zeta Amarone, 2017 paired with duck breast. We normally would settle for a ripasso as the poor man’s Amarone, and as a bonus the sommelier having opened the bottle with Coravin, promptly poured us both what felt like most of the bottle. We didn’t complain…

We finished with a very light Ats Karoly 'Ats Cuvee', Tokaji, not the usual heavy puttonyos nectar of traditional tokaji and more preferable, at least to my taste.
