I prefer runny too. My favorite shakshuka in LA area is at Gjelina in Venice (they call it Moroccan baked eggs) but it isn't a dish that travels well IMO. I make it at home but I want to look up the Ottelenghi recipe.

I had beef tongue on rye. Others had pastrami or corned beef. Now I went to TWA terminal at JFK and had salad with chicken, though before I went to Centurion Lounge and had coq au vin.

I’m excited that because my nearest megamall is being mostly demolished, a huge Deli that was in the mall is moving back into the neighborhood. Thankfully, the Costco, See’s Candies and public library are staying open.
While the new huge building is only half open, I’m excited to try some fresh NY style bagels, and they have a menu with seemingly hundreds of hot items. My oldest daughter grabbed some food there last week, and was amazed at their bakery department.

Yes it does. Bacon goes with sweet things.
I am guessing that you are one of "those people" who doesn't like the idea of a donut used as a bun for a hamburger either. Sometimes you have to color outside of the lines! :p |

I like odd food combinations. I just find the bacon on top of a maple donut didn’t appeal to me. I think I’d go for chocolate dipped bacon. |

Funky Buddha, my favorite Florida brewer once put out Maple Bacon Coffee Porter. To be fair, the bacon mostly came through as saltiness. I drank more than one but more than two would be cloying due to the maple. I do think it’s another case of bacon + sweet = okay. I had a maple bacon donut from Voodoo up in Oregon back when I would eat donuts and it was another case of more than two is too much.

definitely loved voodoo donuts. I have seen or tried bacon donuts at other spots plus other funky donuts (the classic $3.25 donut that BamaVol will one day have with me!) and overall I still love blueberry cake and old/fashioned maple classics.

Voodoo was my first experience with maple bacon doughnuts several years ago. Our Oregon friends said they were the first to do it. No idea whether that was accurate or not but they were a revelation at the time and have remained a favorite.

I know you've mentioned this item before, but it sounds really good to me. Can you share your recipe?
-J. I buy a bunch and freeze them. When I plan to have some, I defrost them in the fridge for a day, then bake them in the oven and add shredded mozzarella with about 5 minutes remaining to let it melt on it... Then I either make it an actual burger with bun, lettuce, ketchup, etc... but quite often I just slice up the baked patties and throw the slices into a mixed green salad (I know it sounds a bit weird but it's actually tasty). :) |
