This college student (not in dorm) only mustered chicken and dumpling soup from a can. Clearly I'm lagging behind!

Ice Kachang and Chendol

Ice Kachang, Singapore.

This popular dessert is a humble concoction of shaved ice, red beans, sweet corn, grass jelly and cubes of agar-agar, coloured with syrup and topped with a final squirt of evaporated milk. The shaved ice is typically hand-cranked with a traditional ice machine and is one of our most-loved desserts for its sweet simplicity. Some of our most lasting and iconic dishes were borne out of necessity and ingenuity and the ice kacang is definitely one of them!

Also some Chendol.

Still shot.

Then I don't feel bad saying that I had two grilled cheeses for brunch and two for dinner (with BBQ sauce, of course). There was also a salad in between with Gorgonzola cheese and balsamic dressing.

Well...I went on a press tour and wouldn't ya know it, desserts stepped up to bat.

(In my defense, the milk had more sugar in it than the cookie...)

Big fan of the shishito peppers. a couple of months ago, a friend bought a bag at a Japanese market in Manhattan. Later on in the day, she got a gyro from a street cart. I asked the guy to grill up some peppers for the sandwich, and surprisingly he said sure...as long as he got to try one!
