Castaway IPA from Kona. I was sitting at one of my favorite beach bars and thought I’d switch it up. Pretty average.

Had a few Yuenglings yesterday. Anyone also think the name sounds like something Asian?

Quest Funkscursion - a sour aged in wine barrels from Greenville, SC
Church Street Lil Lucy - a session IPA from Itasca, IL
Moonlight Meadery Kurt’s Apple Pie - a cyser from Londonderry, NH

The cyser was amazing, which was a good thing at $21 for 10 oz. tasted like apple pie smothered in honey.

Small Brewery Sunday

On Sunday, I hopped out of the abode to commemorate "Small Brewery Sunday".
The brewery I selected was Elmhurst Brwg. in Elmhurst, IL.
I arrived in time for brunch, which is unusual for me. I had the Smothered Tater Tots.
The beers I had were:
  • Fools Gold Coffee Stout (6.8% ABV)
    • Owls Are Dumb German Amber Ale (7.2%)
      • Smooth Jammies Oatmeal Cookie Stout (8.8%)
        • Prof. Plum, In The Brewhouse, w/the Mash Paddle (10%)
          • Doppelapfelstrudelweiss Imperial Berliner Weiss (9.1%)
            • Santa's Liquid Helper (10%)

The Imperial Berliner Weiss, a collaboration with 93 Octane Brwy., was a spectacular beer. It will get mentions as a beer which is my favorite. If you visit Elmhurst Brwg. on a Monday, large taps are $5.00.
My bill came to $41.43. I saved $9.50 by being an American Homebrewers' Association member. :)
I rode CTA and Pace to there. The transfer point at Lake St. and Austin Blvd., on the border of Chicago | Oak Park, now has the One Lake Brwg. brewpub, where I have also had its beers. But not this Sunday. The Pace route #309 bus runs once an hour on Sunday. The last eastbound bus leaves the Elmhurst Metra train station at 6:15 pm on Sunday.
If you do not want to ride transit buses here, the U.P. West Line Elmhurst Metra train station is two blocks south.

That's a top 10 beer name right there.

Grabbed a limited-release Other Half Conjoined Triangles of Success Triple IPA. It's probably the best hazy IPA of any kind I have ever had. Love that the foundation for it is a silly farcical mocking of MBA constructs from the TV show 'Silicon Valley'.

Enjoyed Three Floyds Alpha King in a local bar for the first time in PA.

I don't drink much beer these days but every time I go to Stavanger I blow my whole beer budget on a can of Lervig Toasted Maple Stout , pour it into a glass in small instalments, and enjoy every mouthful.

This is my favourite beer in the world.

If I'm feeling fruity, I go for my second favourite, Lervig Liquid Sex Robot .

Although last night in ABZ BrewDog Union Square I had a wee Black-Eyed Barista, which as the name suggests, is a coffee stout.

I'm beginning to like this BrewDog bar in a modern shopping mall better than the other two in town in more traditional buildings.
Has a more "ordinary working/shopping bloke, grab a beer and rest your feet" feel about it.

Don't forget to also support Innis & Gunn.

Most of the local, large liquor stores here have discontinued carrying I&G, but Total Wine just opened up, and they have a decent selection of their beers.

After a Diet Coke retirement lunch, the Mrs and I stopped to celebrate correctly at the Craft Bar. My first beer was a hazy IPA and delicious. The second was a fruit punch sour. I wasn’t sure after the first sip so asked her to sniff it. She said “it smells like vomit” and she was right. Ewwww.

As I am Clan Gunn on my mother’s side, I will always support I&G. Doesn’t hurt that they make delicious beer. It is also becoming rarer here.
