I'll be heading thru in a few hours... I'll see how it is after the usual Monday morning madness.

At today's MAC Board meeting, it was mentioned that the next busy day at MSP is expected to be Thursday. Today (Monday), TSA expects to screen about 41K passengers, while on Thursday they expect to screen nearly 46K passengers. Yikes!

How bad will Monday the 26th be, one week from today?

Only Thursday was mentioned, other than to say that today is a "typical Monday" in terms of screening volume at MSP this summer.

Since TSA Precheck is only available at South Checkpoint, and since South Checkpoint closes at 7:30 pm, apparently MSP will no longer have TSA Precheck after 7:30 pm.

Maybe 20 people in precheck line, zero in CLEAR. Walked right thru at 330.

Note to self - avoid Monday morning flights if possible until this mess is fixed.

I can say that both Pre-Check and Clear lines at South entrance were a mess this morning. I don't really find CLEAR to be much of an advantage anymore - having my face/print scanned is not any faster than handing my ID and boarding pass to the TSA agent, and now that so many travelers have Clear, it's often faster to just use TSA Pre Check at MSP.
My last two trips ex-MSP, CLEAR has been considerably longer than PreCheck lines. I've ducked under and saved myself time. Finalizing new applicants in-line is a losing formula for CLEAR, and it's only going to get worse with this construction as more people sign up.

This may cause more people to fly out of Terminal 2 until things are cleared up for people who have the option. I know for me, I have both DL and WN as an option on my route and use both. I'm flying out of MSP late Sunday afternoon without Precheck though so will report back; at least I never check luggage so that will save me some time. Hopefully things improve this week before then. Too bad too as last time I flew out of MSP in Terminal 1, I didn't check bags, went through South and had no line.

Is the checkpoint into T1 from the new IC hotel still open during its limited morning hours now for those who have done OLCI and don't have checked bags?

Yup. It may require a paper boarding pass though - can anyone confirm?

I was volunteering at MSP from noon to 8pm today. I missed the worst of the early morning lines but did hear one report that TSA was timing the process through the checkpoints and found the longest time to get through to be 30 minutes. I observed several times during the day when the North checkpoint lines extended back to mid-terminal but the lines always moved really quickly. The elite/first class/handicapped/unaccompanied minors line at North never looked very long when I was near it. The PreCheck lines at South tended to be quite reasonable and fast.

The bigger congestion I saw was in the Delta bag drop line, which was really long during much of the day. During the late afternoon/early evening the Self line (where pax can check in, print out tags, and drop their bags on a belt) was not in operation. I don’t know whether that was caused by a staffing issue or problems with the kiosks.

How were the SkyPriority counter lines? And how did South look for CLEAR with PreCheck (which is the line that I assume I'll be using in a week)? How obvious is the elite North line and does CLEAR work there? Or is CLEAR too busy taking care of new UA elites who now get it for free or a reduced rate as well as other new signups (including DL people) that they're unable to take care of their existing customers?

Eight hours in the mess is very brave. Thank you. Was this a four hour shift that was extended when they asked you to stay longer? Or did you sign on for it out of altruism or perhaps in response to begging in advance?

The SkyPriority counter lines didnt look bad, although I didnt get down that way too much today. The North elite line is marked twice, so pretty easy to find. I spent a certain amount of time walking up and down the North lines, and occasionally the South line, making sure passengers who were elite or PreCheck were not in the longer line. The CLEAR pax always seemed to know to look for that line, whereas the occasional person who gets PreCheck randomly doesnt always realize it. Im not certain whether there is a CLEAR+Elite combination. There were a lot of CLEAR staff at North today and what looked like new CLEAR kiosks.

South with PreCheck never looked very long.

The volunteers did receive information about the changes and requests (pleadings!) for volunteers to sign up for today and especially for 5am-noon. I wasnt heroic enough to overcome the fact that Im not a morning person; I signed up for 12-4 but found that it was busy and interesting enough to stay on for a double shift. In addition to dealing with the checkpoint changes, it was a busy day with lots of situations where passengers needed extra information and help. As a volunteer, today was the kind of day I most enjoy, with lots of different problems (some simple, some complex) to be solved, a certain amount of chaos, and lots of confused passengers.

TSA clocked the longest wait at 30 minutes? That seems counter to most of the anecdotal reports I've heard and read. I'd be surprised if it was really only 30 minutes for the longest time...
