I haven’t seen it with my own eyes, but I heard this morning from a Delta agent that the skybridge TSA checkpoint just reopened and will be back in operation from 5:15am (or 5:30? Can’t recall) to 1:15pm.

No lines anywhere when I checked in around 8:30 this morning. Very quiet.

I'm not sure where to put this PSA and wanted to avoid starting a new thread:

Yesterday there were some afternoon disruptions at MSP caused by airport employees (such as wheelchair pushers, aircraft cleaners, presumably some security line dragons, etc.) holding a rally to advocate for a $15 minimum wage for MSP employees. The airport commission was scheduled to discuss the proposal at its meeting yesterday. The increase would occur in steps and one point of contention is whether a tip credit (presumably for tipped positions only) would be subtracted from the minimum. Part of the motivation is to match the new Minneapolis minimum wage regulations. [AFAIK this wouldn't cover any airline or TSA employees, nor anyone employed by merchants at MSP. I don't know what airlines at MSP use airport contract workers rather than their own employees to help with check in and gate agent duties, but I would expect the same general patterns as one sees at other hubs and major domestic airports.]

From pictures on TV, it looked like the rally impacted curbside drop offs at T1 departures level as well as access to check in counters and the North and South security checkpoints. [I didn't notice any pictures that looked like T2.]

It might be wise to follow this issue and allow additional time for MSP departures if it looks like further action could occur.,

Another change:

I got an email (but can’t confirm personally as I’m out of the country) that the Delta Skycap at MSP has moved from the east roadway to the west roadway. I assume that by Delta Skycap the sender meant Delta’s curbside checkin.

That will be a mess when taxis etc. drop people off on the wrong side of the departures level roadway in front of the terminal. You cannot cross the street here (physical barriers) and would be forced to go inside and either up one level to the skyway or down two levels to the basement below baggage claim to get to the other side.....unless you notice soon enough and inside that the taxi/uber/car service go the whole way around to drop you on the parking ramp side.

This will likely hurt SkyCap business and tips as well as inconveniencing those who are willing to tip in order to have a more convenient airport experience.

That's much faster than originally announced, right?

I was told by TSA this reversion to the old setup is only for MEA and work will continue after MEA travel is over. The project is not done.

Before my partner started a second career as a teacher I made the mistake of flying during MEA. Didn’t know the dates. I couldn’t figure out why it was such a zoo. I think they are smart to go back to old configuration during that time (actual dates October 17-18, affected dates October 16 through weekend)

What's an MEA?

Mid East Airline?
MicrosoftEnterpriseAgreement?
Minimum Enroute Altitude?
Miscellaneous Expense Allowance?

It is a MN teacher convention and schools are closed for a couple of days. It is the yearly peak O/D week+ at MSP because lots of families schedule travel that week.

This sounds like it will be a disorganized chaotic mess (again).

Went through this morning at 6am and the South (left) checkpoint is back to its previous configuration (basically the same). Clear with PreCheck took about 5 min to get through.

I was told that its open for good but will have a few off peak closures to finish up the floor.

Off-peak closures of the entire South checkpoint? That will be a big mess.

In some ways, I wish they had left the TSA airport security at MSP as is for the MEA travel period. It could be good for more of the FOTSG crowd to experience the suffering that frequent/business travelers face regularly at MSP these days.
