Guess I'm glad I went home home yesterday night instead of taking a redeye and being stuck at my connection point...

So systems down for over 5hrs due to a power failure? Anyone else think that its plausible that is just a coverup story for a outside network instruction/hack?

A couple of flights here at Logan are now boarding. But the BP scanners aren't registering the BPs correctly, so they're having to manually process the boarding.

There's a waiver posted on delta.dumb for all DL travel today: Rebook and fly by August 12th with change fees waived, but you pay the fare difference or cancel for a voucher, again with the change fee waived. Of course, full refunds for cancelled or badly delayed flights are available.

ADDED: The app seems to be back up. I can check flight status, which I couldn't do earlier.

Without being on the inside who knows, but if systems go down hard, it could definitely happen. Plus, when systems go down hard that means they aren't shut down in sequence (which a lot of systems have to be), so it could be a mess for a long, long time.

Typically when there's a intrusion, systems are working sporadically. It sounds like from a few folks here that for a period, core systems were just offline.

So did all of the NRT-US flights get cxld due to timeouts or missing the curfew?

Sensible IT'ers would make it their fist priority to get the systems back up, then evaluate what went wrong and only then take action. Knee jerks reactions based on news stories are normally the wrong ones.... So let's see what the problem really was.

National Public Radio just reported (about 8:10 AM EST) that airport flight status boards are incorrect -- the boards are showing that flights are on time, but the flights are really cancelled.

I remember getting caught up in one of UAs outages in 2012 when all sCO flights were fine but all sUA flights were down and I was in SFO waiting to get on an sUA 777 back to IAD. Took about 5 hours before we finally got out.
