Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:

Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)

Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.

Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017

Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.

New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3

Bus Map

Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...d-updates.html

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:

Delta will temporarily offer dedicated check-in space in Terminal 2 (first door closest to T1) while a long-term Delta One experience is finalized.
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)

Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)

Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris

Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet

Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

Ah missed that part, but fully agree.

then they start construction. Ugh. There is a part of me wishing (and I know it isn't going happen), that while LAX is a mess, DL moves 4 flights to LGB. Pick either MSP/ATL/DTW and use the 4 slots to one of those cities. Ask the city for 4 of the 25 available commuter slots, and run 4 CRJ700 to SLC.

From the picture, it sure doesn't look like the long-term plan is to demolish & rebuild T3.

I am struggling to find my source link now (everything is pulling up reprints of the press release) but I definitely read an article yesterday that quotes someone from either Delta of LAX (I believe it was Delta) essentially saying that razing and rebuilding Terminal 3 was the only viable solution long-term.

I listened to the LAWA board meeting presentation. It's about 45 minutes where the board lays out what it wants, and the Delta talks about why it's excited for the deal. Nothing too earth-shattering, but a few little details, like the move timeline.

Thanks.

8 weeks for the move, starting no earlier than May '17

Surprised they will do this over the summer.

T3 rebuilt in place and partially demolished after DL moves in.

I think SEA looks good to me for a few years as a TPAC hub :-)

Delta wants to rebuild the T3 head house (the part that houses most of the land side facilities) that will include land side and secured air side connections to TBIT and T2. There is no plan to rebuild the T3 concourse other than substantial refurbish of the interior and maybe some gating changes. Delta will also put in a Sky Club in T3.

Is there room west(?) of T3 where the old TBIT gates were? Could they be planning on building some of the new T3 there and then demo/rebuild the old?

not really. The aircraft park at the gate on what was the old TBIT.

The (small) shift might have added 100ft to the alleyway(s) between TBIT and T3/T4. Not nearly the room that would be needed to rebuild T3 (or T4 for that matter) and still use the old T3/4

The T3 rebuild will likely be the like the T5 "rebuild" way back in the day. Small phases.

honestly for the gate area I would be shocked if anything major happens till MSC gets finished and Delta can use some extra TBIT gates as they rebuild the T3 gates.

Mostly perfect weather. There are the days in December when the fog rolls in and chaos results. Frequently right before Christmas.

Since it looks like this is going to be a discussion that may continue for a few years, and that the move is now confirmed, I would suggest that mods rename this thread: LAX 2017 Terminal Move: The Definitive Thread

Just an FYI, on reddit today, the CEO of LAX said that Delta would move between January 2017 and December 2018, which is a super long time.

Thanks.

I had originally thought that the entire project would wait for the MSC gates. Sounds from the meeting audio that DL had to execute now as leases were running out on the T6 gates.

Anyway, is MSC (or even the north half) really going to get built? Any timeframes?
