Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:
Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)
Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.
Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017
Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.
New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3
Bus Map
Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)
Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)
Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris
Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet
Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

I love LAX. I am always wheels down to home 17 miles away in under an hour. Always.
(Travel with an I110 express lanes transponder)
With the exception of the Bradley airlines, I am always curb to gate in under 15 minutes due to the short Pre lines and compact layout.
With the exception of T1, a single Citi Prestige credit card for $200/yr net gives me free lounge access for all terminals. T2 AC, T3 VX, Bradley KE, T4 AA, T5/6/7/8 AS in T6.
4 parellel runways, perfect weather, Uber pickups allowed.
Bloody perfection.

Agreed; the new TBIT is so much better than the first version 30+ years ago. Naming it for Tom Bradley, while well-meaning, was a slap in his face. Now, it's worthy of his name.
Completely agree.
I agree.
Sure, it would be neat if we had an airport like SIN or DXB, but that would require moving it 50-100 miles away, and most people don't want that (except, of course, for the whiners who live adjacent to LAX and want it shut down).
I know that people like to chide LAX, but I think it's one of the best airports in the world for flying, at least as a local. Direct non-stops to almost everywhere in the world, choice of airline, and without any weather problems. Just getting to/from the airport sucks, but getting to / from anywhere in LA isn't the best either.

As someone not LA-Based, my biggest complaint is around the rental car setup - complete disaster. Would love to see something like a JFK/ATL consolidated rental car center.
Of course, Uber has helped this indirectly...

I guess it makes sense, but I didn't realize DL will be moving to T2/T3 prior to the renovations. That seems like it will be a (temporary) step down at least with regard to Terminal 3 which is old, tight, and crowded (T5 is cavernous in comparison). I haven't been in T2 however so maybe it's better than T3?

Your fairly lucky. I have been to LAX 5 weeks in a row. My average from National Rental to T5 is 20-25 Minutes. Yes Pre-Check Lines are short in T5 so it speeds things up. July 7th it took my 45 minutes to get from National to T5. Going through Bradley International Terminal delayed everything.
We'll see how Wednesday night next week goes. As for T5 it has no restaurants that appeal to me. I usually walk to another Terminal when time allows.

T3, well, it just plain sucks. The only bright side is the VX lounge.

T2 was recently renovated, so it's decent now. I flew HA through there earlier this year, and it was significantly better than the last time I departed from there. Security was still a bit of a mess with the entry points of the lines starting right at the top of the stairs/escalators.

Easy curb to gate as noted.
In n out close by for a quick guilt trip.
Great variety of carriers keeps fares rational.
Flagship routes.
Lots of car rental competition.
Beach at the end of the runway.
Lots of airport hotels close by.
Many ways to get between terminals - airside TBIT-8, the parking lot walk, the curb walk.
New TBIT best looking terminal in the country.
Random retro touches elsewhere.
Action in the air - great mix of biz and people who are really on vacation in an LA mood.
Watching those local LA pickups - always an interesting cast of characters - yet minimal ride hustling.
Better than any NYC area airport by a wide margin.
Food is still meh, but I don't do much airport eating besides snack bars or lounge snacks.
But I will miss T5. You can tell it was premium for the time it was built.

LAX is a hell of a lot better now than a few years ago.
Certainly TBIT is now one if the nicest international departure concourses in the world. Obviously a huge improvement from the slum that it used to be.
But taxiways and gates are still an issue, and I doubt that is going to change soon. Perhaps the midfield concourse can help.
Regardless, the issue with lack of space is what it is. It will always be the dominate US TPAC gateway, so DL has to do the best they can there.

My read was that DL would move to T2/3 and vacate T5/6 so the existing carriers at T2/3 could move there. I don't think DL will be operating from T2 and T5 concurrently, but I could have misunderstood.

The move is happening in phases over two weeks, with Delta moving half its operation at the beginning and half at the end, while other carriers move in the middle. I'd expect some sort of airside shuttle over those two weeks, but it will likely be miserable.
