Most DM/PM gamers use the AMEX waiver which isn't affected. The effect of this change = 0.

Maybe, maybe not. I've been flying Delta all year without status and have had a very pleasant time doing it. I like Delta and I plan to continue to fly them.

[QUOTE=StayingHomeIsBetter;23652806]Some thoughts... FOs bring little business to DL, otherwise they would have already risen above the FO level.

As a FO with a current MQD of just over $9000 and 26,000 miles for 2014 so far, I could argue I bring more business than some GMs. Obviously I'm not as valuable to DL as someone using their AMEX at Home Depot or someone fortunate to live in NYC or SEA for whom DL status is an apparent gift without much need to spend much of anything with DL. I appreciate my lowlife position with DL.

I have been trying to use the search function on my own posts. Not found yet. If this is true, note I predicted it quite a few months back at EXACTLY the amounts quoted by the OP i.e. 3000, 6000 etc. At that time one or two folks pooh-poohed the idea.

I am struggling to find my post from about 3 years ago when I also predicted the MQD+MQM/MQS concept. I did not get it quite right because I suggested MQD +MQM + MQS not MQD +MQM or MQS

If I could find I would repost. So yes I take some blame

This has been a lower flying year for me but with my rollover MQM's and the bonus MQMs from AMEX, I'm going to be close to Platinum, while not being anywhere near it based on my fares... However, I think in 2015, I'm simply going to seek out the lowest airfare. My personal budget means more to me than status that gives me less and less benefit.

I work for the gov and we are doing less and les travel, use telepresence and/or simply drive out govs, even for a 7 hour trip. Flying, at least in my agency, is audited heavily.

So, your Richard Anderson in disguise!

Look, they can go as high as they want with this. The question is, what will the tipping point be? for some folks it might be $15K and for others it might be double that. Once people start folding and moving to AA, it might be to late for Delta to bring back the elites they pushed out. One thing I know for sure and that's that DL can't only survive with 25K MQD diamonds with the elimination of the Amex waiver. Delta has a history of forcing there FF to fold and move elsewhere, only to go back on what they mucked up.

And my counter is why shouldn't they? I'm over 240,000 MQMs and $85,000 MQDs with only about 50 segments yet I'm in the same upgrade pool when I fly domestic. The airline nets way more off me than someone flying cheap, multi segment flights simply to build up MQSs and achieve DM status. IMO they need to increase the limits further.

It's official:

Adding More Exclusivity To The Medallion Program

We’re adjusting the 2016 Medallion Qualification Dollars* (MQDs) thresholds to add even more exclusivity to the SkyMiles Medallion program.

The MQDs requirement for 2016 Medallion status, which is based on flights flown between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015, will change as follows:

Silver Medallion MQDs requirement will be adjusted from $2,500 to $3,000
Gold Medallion MQDs requirement will be adjusted from $5,000 to $6,000
Platinum Medallion MQDs requirement will be adjusted from $7,500 to $9,000
Diamond Medallion MQDs requirement will be adjusted from $12,500 to $15,000

The MQDs requirement will continue to be waived if you make $25,000 or more in eligible purchases with a Delta SkyMiles Credit Card in the qualification year.

Learn more about MQDs and what’s changing.

*MQDs requirement is for U.S.-based members only.

So we can blame YOU for giving DL the idea!

I wonder how much the upper ranks will thin out next year due to the 1st round of changes, and how much more it will thin out in 2016 due to the latest announced changes?

The update also notes that the 2015 Medallion year will end on January 31, 2016 instead of February 28.

Well, at least they finally said it clearly...

"when everyone's an elite flyer, no one is"
