My friends sailed with them a couple of times and while they praised the high quality ingredients and menus, they also complained about the lack of variety, even on 7-day sailings. They also said Explora does not deviate from their menu items or entertain special requests, which is a deal breaker for us, because we are vegan.

Seabourn, on the other hand, will customize our meals for us with 24-hour notice. They will also procure special vegan products for us at no charge with advanced notice; I typically give them my list a couple of months prior to sailing.

I would agree Explora is not a good choice for a vegan or strict vegetarian as there's really not that much on offer. Ownership (which has an unimaginable amount of money to play with - and not responsible for it to anyone other than to themselves) seem to want to do things their way. As for the non-changing menu, I wouldn't actually mind this even on a multi-week cruise as I can take my time sampling everything of interest and then going back to what I liked most (other than for the likelihood that it may never be prepared the same way again).

That sounds arrogant and un-customer focused and ultimately not a good way to run a business. I guess it's a private company? Who is the ownership anyway?

It's owned by MSC. Which makes this even more odd since we had very good experience with variety and special orders on MSC.

Private for sure. Looks like the ownership is evenly split between the Italian couple (Apontes) who founded the company with a single ship (on credit) 54 years ago. Some media source put it as the largest (container) shipping company in the world. The container business was estimated to have made 36 billion in profit last year and may make similar amounts this year and next if freight rates keep going the way they are.

They're pouring ~USD 3.6 billion into the Explora line (to buy 6 ships, 4 ship initial order adding another 2 later). CarnivalCorp and RCCI could only dream of pouring in that much money w/o shareholder scrutiny.

As you can see in the Wiki, we're on that cruise as well. Just make sure you go to San Pedro and not Long Beach for boarding, or else you'll miss the ship...

Decided on cancelling this trip. We are saving about 50% off the Viking price for the same type of cabin, so it was too good to pass up.

Are you booked on Seabourn Pursuit on Dec 15 for 21 days? (1 night hotel in Buenos Aires + 20 nights cruise)?

To the two of you on the 21 day Seabourn Antarctica over the holidays, I am very jealous - I did it last year and it is the best trip I have ever been on - posted about it here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/antarctica/2148194-back-antartica-seabourn-venture.html You are going to have a blast.

We have done some future bookings recently, got hit by the 'how can we not have anything booked' bug:

- Seabourn Encore 6/15/25 Istanbul to Athens
- SeaDream II 2/14/27 (!!) St Martin to St Thomas

Prices are getting very pricey for some of these, hence the booking out to 2027 for a decent deal.

Many thanks for the link and info. I asked you a bunch of questions on the other thread.
