Private for sure. Looks like the ownership is evenly split between the Italian couple (Apontes) who founded the company with a single ship (on credit) 54 years ago. Some media source put it as the largest (container) shipping company in the world. The container business was estimated to have made €36
billion in profit last year and may make similar amounts this year and next if freight rates keep going the way they are.
They're pouring ~USD 3.6 billion into the Explora line (to buy 6 ships, 4 ship initial order adding another 2 later). CarnivalCorp and RCCI could only dream of pouring in that much money w/o shareholder scrutiny.
