The requirements for the application process varies from bank to bank based on various online data points collected from FlyerTalk, Doctor of Credit, etc.
Some banks require that you go into a branch and apply personally. Other banks want you to have another account open for 90 days before you can get this card. Some banks (if you already have a relationship with them) let you apply via mail. Sometimes you have to be a resident of the state they operate in, while some were able to get the card without living in those states. It is very much YMMV. You will need proof of income (W2, check stubs, etc). The only states City National Bank operates in are: NY, DE (only trust office, no go), DC, GA, TN, MN, NV & CA. The bank is looking for high net worth individuals, but that's not exactly consistent either.
The card has no foreign transactions fees and is fee-free the first year, then $400 annually.

I had a pretty negative experience trying to apply for this card today. While the banker I spoke to was never rude, I would describe the discussion as a screening process designed to weed out "undesirables" and I walked out without applying.
Among the things I was told:
-They are now only allowing people to apply for the card who are willing to start a relationship with the bank outside of the card (this was defined as opening a Platinum account with a minimum balance of $3,500).
-They wanted people who will "actually use the card".
-The promotional period ended Nov 30 (he added that they still had some outstanding applicants due to system delays, so it's possible they might be able to "squeeze" it in).
I actually had to press him on details about opening the required account, he didn't really have an interest in selling it. In reality, I probably meet the qualifications they're looking for in a potential "relationship" beyond the credit card, but he was quick to send me away with his card and told me, "why don't you think about it and let me know if you're interested".
I was definitely interested in the card beyond the signup bonus - a broader relationship, who knows... but I walked away from this with a pretty bad taste in my mouth about the bank (or at least that branch).

Anyone having difficulties with misinformation from RMs? Mine said I was adding a cosigned user with a spending limit every time I mentioned AU, not sure if there's a difference. Also said I couldn't add a Priority Pass for my AU, so I don't know how to circumvent that. Any way to reach the credit card department directly?

I didn't watch to see when my spending crossed $5k but after receiving my statement I found it over 5K, I went to the Reward account and the bonus was already there.

Positive update to report. The above happened at the midtown NYC branch, so I tried my luck at the branch near Bryant Park. Couldn't have been a more different experience. They had flyers on their desks with the promo offer, I told the banker I wanted to sign up and he offered me the application, no qualifications, no questions asked. The flyer has the 11/30 deadline but the application had been updated with 12/31. Signed, sealed, waiting for approval...
Changed my location to NYC, but not my username. If there is more than 1 branch in LA, you might try the vehicular version of HUCA.

mine took about 4 business days from when I passed 5k on my primary card only, charges to the authorized user card did not seem to count towards the 5k but they do earn points for the card. I have no official proof of this theory but since I had meet the combined 5k about 3 weeks prior I highly suspect it.

Can anyone else confirm if authorized user spend counts towards the 5k needed to earn the 100k bonus ?

I had a great experience experience at the midtown cnb. Applied 11/18 and got the card last week. I had to open a savings account but just a $100 deposit with no fees. Everyone was very professional so not sure what you are talking about. Did you go in your pajamas?
