Sorry to go back to the "old topic" a few responses back, but it was very frustrating to get on the plane, find 1A and have no overhead space. You would think on a red-eye flight from SLC-EWR with two rows of first, people would be able to tell the difference between the two cabins! Also on another flight twenty of us were lined up waiting for first class and another first class passanger had to go on the other side (non-elite access) to get on before all of us! He did not need any special assistance or time to get on, he was just being rude. And low and behold he was sitting next to me! There is no reason for that behavior.

I have observed such behavior many times. On my last flight, I also observed a late-boarding coach passenger try to stow a bag in the F overhead - the FA ordered him to remove and gate check it. The individual in question ignored a first class passenger who told him that the space was reserved for first class.

Yeah! I say bring those boxes back.
Oh No!! BAD IDEA!
Leave it to the discretion of the TSA? I think not. My carryon is well within limits but I wouldn't want to have to pass by another TSA headscratcher while they try and figure out if my bag is ok or not. Enough of a PITA as it is with them and what they already do.....talk about slowing things down......

Bingo; the policy is not enforced at all. On every trip, I observe individuals with either greatly oversized baggage or more than one carryon and a personal item. Over the holidays, I saw two guys in a P Club who had everything but the kitchen sink with them. One had a huge garment bag, rollaboard that was one size too big to be "carryon legal," a laptop case, and another brief case. The other guy had a huge duffle bag, rollaboard, laptop briefcase, and a backpack. The two of them alone probably would have taken half the overhead space in a 733 or 73G.

This, of course, is in addition to the hundreds of others I have seen breaking the carryon rules.

Living overseas (from the US) - the issues with excessive carry on and scumbags putting their stuff in F bins when they're in the back of the bus is almost exclusively a US issue. In Oz (and other countries I travel to) airlines enforce carry-on limits which are more restrictive than US airlines in the first place. IMO - this also helps eliminate the crazy rush to get on the place first since there always seems to sufficient bin space.

Finally (while I'm on my soapbox) if US airports/airlines did a better job delivering checked luggage in a timely manner, passengers would not be so reluctant to check bags.

That is one of the reasons I like flying on foreign carriers.

CO is the carrier that sued UA to have them removed. I wouldn't expect them to come back for CO anytime soon.

shame on us!

And in reference to the passenger who posted a comment about the late boarding coach passenger attempting to put his carry on in a F/C overhead, if the first class cabin has fully boarded and space is still available, I will allow coach passengers to put their bags there IF no space is left in coach. To not allow this would be irrational and unnecessarily rude to our coach passengers.

If you are referring to my post, there were still a few F passengers who had not yet boarded, so the FA was concerned about bin space for the late-arriving F passengers.

That was Gordon. He also instated bigger overhead bins.

I still say bring those sizing boxes back and we need to start using them.....sorry guys, you just might have to start checking those extra bags in.

I agree with you. People bring way too much stuff aboard.

Sounds a bit harsh for your revenue customers, even if they happen to be relegated to the coach cabin. Please save the condescension for a.net.

Angry

GRRR....

I had a very rude passenger in Phoenix tell me that I could not put my bag in the overhead because she was saving space for her friend and I would just have to find somewhere else to put my rollaboard. The FA told her there was no way that overhead space could be reserved and it was first come first served.

Not too long ago, I had another rude passenger in Dallas who started taking bags out of the first class overhead so he could stow his luggage. The FA intervened and the guy whined loudly when he had to gate check his bags.

Some people are just too rude and/or stupid for words!!

I think it's all due to the degeneration of courtesy in the US. (and I think the rest of the world will soon follow) If everyone were just to behave sensibly and courteously, I'm sure everything would be fine. Perhaps we'll see the courtesy make a comeback when people reach their limit and start to provide immediate feedback on discourtesy (which is in itself somewhat discourteous, but hey, that's the breaks?) and dumbasses can be reminded by the courteous masses that they shouldn't be .......s.

With that in mind, I'd like to comment that I don't think every time something strikes you, you need to do a search to bump the original related thread - particularly on "conversational" topics rather than "FAQ" topics.

I appreciate the higher limits at CO because there are times when I have to travel with slightly oversized carryons - either my photo backpack and some non-briefcase item or leis from Hawaii or fiance's wedding dress or some other such nonsense.

I would not expect CO, or any of the US carriers, to start strictly enforcing the carry on bag rules. The dirty little secret is that they prefer as few checked bags as possible and would rather folks cram as much in cabin as possible

Checked backed are far more expensive for a carrier to handle than carry ons. With carry ons the passenger is schlepping their bags for free, with checked the airlines have to pay folks to do the schlepping.

It's no surprise that carry on rules are not enforced.
