Ok. So now I am centered enough to begin my rant.

As you all know, I am building a house. It has been a very :rolleyes: experience so far. Building inspector in my town took 6 weeks to sign off on permits that should have taken him 1 day to do (when he actually looked at the permits, my GC was with him and it literally took all of 10 minutes for him to review the application and sign off on it :mad:). So we knocked down the old house on October 27th, and only began digging yesterday. (As ab aside, because I didn't have the permits, I couldn't close on my construction loan, and therefore lost out on a good interest rate, and now have to close next week. - Least of my problems!)


So, because of the delays with the issuance of the permits we had to keep our Superior Walls basement on hold. My GC was in constant contact with the company, and each time they told him "don't worry, we're not busy, just call us a day or so before you need us and it will be no problem". Each week, my GC called to let them know we were still waiting for the permits and to keep them in the loop.

The permits were issued last Thursday. GC called Superior Walls sales contact on Friday to confirm that we would be digging this week and ready for the walls on Thursday.

Superior Walls called him back this morning (basement hole 75% dug) to let him know that because they were not busy, and it was a "slow time of the year", they have decided to shut down operations until the New Year and now will not deliver our basement walls until January 5th. No amount of negotiation from my GC would change their minds. They are closing down and it's just tough for us. We have to wait.

My GC is apoplectic. We have a freaking HUGE hole in the ground that will have to sit there for 3 weeks, which is not a good thing.

I am apoplectic. I am normally very mild mannered, rarely lose my temper, am pretty good at dealing with such things, but I just lost it when my GC called. He was speechless when he heard me yelling and screaming very unladylike phrases (one rhymes with Duck, other implies illegitimacy, yet others connote poop, another is a less than genteel description for rodent's bottom, etc.....:D) down the phone. He has never seen me anything other than composed, polite, friendly, considerate, etc. and we've known each other for 14 years!

We now have another delay - 3 weeks - and I told him to get on the phone to Superior Walls and tell them I am deducting $500 per week of delay until they set the walls. This is to compensate me for the $500+ per week I am paying in rent to live in this sh!thole of a rental house.

Oh, man am I angry. :mad::mad::mad::mad:
