I am working outdoors in it. :( I guess it could be worse. I could be working outside in Houston right now. If I were hired when I was supposed to be hired, I would be working outdoors in Ike right now.

I just bought my ticket to LIM for 2/5-2/8. I'm officially in!

Glad I evacuated Houston on Thursday. Hope everyone else still stuck there is safe. Seems like texts have a better shot of getting through than voice calls, especially for persons with AT&T wireless.

Thats true. My parents are up in NYC on a "work" related visit that was planned a few months ago and they left my aunt and grandma's at their house in The Woodlands. They said everything was fine as they were in the theater room until the power went out. When the eye went through a small tree fell on the pool/guest house (no damage that they can tell of) and they said the pool water is black. My aunts ex-husband lives in Galveston and came up for the night. Being the idiot he is he drove back to Galveston this morning to find only half his house remaining.

I have had ZERO problems calling my fiance on her Verizon cell phone. ^ to Verizon. Then again, in midtown all her neighbors have power, she is one of four townhomes on her entire block without power. So, since they don't need to use their cell phones, her calls get right through.

Just looked at this from CLE :( It is double the price. Not sure I can sell that at home. But... I did find a Sheraton in LIM for a whopping 3000 points/night - which could make up for the cost of the flight.

I thought Galveston was closed off - how was he able to get back in? And yes he was in idiot to go back ;) Glad everyone was safe. MR BL and BL JR went to SAT since there was no power. Power has now been restored so they are coming home sometime today. Our neighbors were going to have a nice time grilling all the meat before it went bad (lots of Omaha Steaks in our fridges) and who knows how much beer is gone ;) . One good thing - we still have good ole regular phone lines and our neighbors have mostly switched to cable lines. We still had phone service (and still have 3 old antique phones around that actually plug into the phone and work without electricity) so our neighbors are drinking our beer, eating our steaks and using our phone. The trade off is when we are gone, they do all sorts of great stuff for us so we're happy to do this.

Even though I'm in SGN, people are having a tough time getting through to me and I said, it doesn't matter, it's still affected because it's a number from the area!

Were you able to find the rate?

I've been talking with my family in the Sugar Land and Angleton areas (where I grew up) and couldn't get through unless I changed some settings on my phone to access the emergency overhead space on the phone networks. It seems to be a little better now, though, so I can usually get through after a couple of tries on the regular network.

I see it. The rate comes out to 10K points, 3K for the weekend nights and 4K for the weekday night. I need to figure out what neighborhood it is in and see if it makes sense. The 10K points seems like a pretty good rate for a property that is going for USD189/night ($570) on those same dates.

Also, it looks like the weekend we're there is during Carnival. Not quite as elaborate a celebration as Rio, but still looks like a good time.
