This animal appears to have a large chunk of its shoulder blown away, big enough to see sky through. That often happens in Texas to cattle once deer hunting season begins.

I just assumed that was the cow's ear tag, which happened to be blue.

Actually, I thought it was something on the mirror that was picking up surrounding color. But, you're right, in fact it may be an ear tag.

I was kidding about the risk to cattle from amateur deer hunters. Kidding, only because I don't own any.

Story of teh cow: Speeding(in a rental sedan :D) along Utah's Hole-in-the-Wall dirt road with all the purty cows watching when I suddenly realized they were free range cows with no fences anywhere. I slowed down a bit.:o

And yes, it's an ear tag.
