That passenger might also be a Gold or Platinum with other passengers on the same PNR.

No one sitting next to them or even near them.

This is absolutely correct.

It isn't a change fee. It is the fee to upgrade a cheap-o domestic flight with non-elite miles.

Rewards carry the status of the account from which the miles were redeemed, not the named passenger. That's why I can always book two rewards from my account and change them at will (including the one for my wife who has no status). :-:

Guess I missed that change. I assume that's one of the new things that happened last year when all of the new fees were released?

Who says they're sitting together?

There was a time where I had to book myself and my boss on the same flights often. She always wanted it on the same PNR. I always made sure we didn't sit anywhere near each other.

Wow — sometime earlier today I passed up 10,000 posts and became an Evangelist and didn't even realize it until now.

I'm sure it was in here, considering I've not posted much in any thread today.

Ummm...digging back into my collection of useless CO knowledge, I want to say that non-Elites were precluded from domestic upgrades on cheap-o fares in 2005 or 2006. Then in late 2007 or early 2008 they revised the policy, adding a co-pay (and exempting elites) but removing the prohibition. I am pretty sure that was at the same time that the most expensive co-pay for BF went from $450->$500.

As for the reward carrying the status of the miles, it has always* been that way.

*As far back as 1999; before that I wasn't flying enough to care.

Congrats!! I noticed at one point earlier that you were at 10,010 and that the title had changed. I figured that I just missed the milestone post in the Box due to PWPity.

Yeah, I was well aware of the change to excluding the cheapo fares from upgrades with no miles. That happened in one of the slow travel years earlier this decade, when I was a non-elite (after a couple of years of Silver). I missed the $150 copay part though.

And the miles have carried the status of the owner, not the person flying on the ticket, for as long as I can remember too.

I went back and looked. It was my post in the "IAH Directions" thread that did it.

Correct! You win the pony.:D

In 2002 when specing out my Dell Insipron I ordered a floppy drive that could be hot-swapped in one of the battery bays.

Well, since I missed it before…

:-::-::-: 10,037! :-::-::-:

Finally, after nearly 10 years of finding this place, and over 8 years of posting, a dozen or so Do's of various sizes, and a countless amount of booze, I have achieved that esteemed PWP status, Evangelist. :D
