  • Finding out that beer is not allowed at Mustang Island State Park — and the fine is $500.
  • Shopping at HEB for things that we ended up leaving in the HGI for one of the maids. Hope she enjoys two unopened loaves of Mrs. Baird's, and a couple of packages of HEB flour tortillas, as well as the remnants of a few six packs of Modelo.
  • Tragic people at the beach.
  • Hot people at the beach.
  • ALCO molesting J.Edward in the front seat of a rented Honda CRV (and pics taken to prove it).
  • Sunburn.
  • Watching multiple cars getting stuck in the sand at the beach, followed by a couple of our own cars getting stuck.
  • Certain Box members getting really, really, really drunk and then doing things in the ocean that should not be mentioned here.
  • Renting The World's Most Awesome™ Rental Car, a craptastic Grand Prix from Avis that had well over 30,000 miles on it, and a smell inside that was described as "grandma's douche bag."
  • A certain Box founder relieving himself not once, not twice, not three times, but four times in a couple of hours in various parking lots next to said World's Most Awesome™ Rental Car.
  • Great baseball game at Whataburger Field.
  • Whataburger — multiple times.
  • Someone forgetting his ID, then being threatened with arrest, a phone call to the TABC, and being tossed out of the ballpark for having a beer with no ID — and the person this happened to was a good 5-10 years older than the kid threatening him.
  • Trying to break into the pool at the HGI after hours using the key from The World's Most Awesome™ Rental Car. This resulted in the key that that car becoming nearly unusable for starting the car.
  • Watching high class TV like Cheaters while drinking beer, after being locked out of the pool at the HGI. And witnessing a woman take her obese "whole lot of man love" to an all you can eat pizza buffet on a date.
  • Two Box members sharing a bed at the HGI, after a day of much drunkenness. Not going to speculate what happened there… They shall remain nameless, but one is named after a zoo animal and the other is about to move across the country.
  • Finding Dublin Dr. Pepper, made with pure Imperial brand cane sugar, in 20 oz. bottles at a convenience store in Goliad, TX.
  • Flying VCT-IAH, and realizing that ALCO and I doubled CO's passenger load on the flight to four passengers.

Oh my. I think this should be exponged (?) from the record... if this gets out... I'll never be allowed to go to another DO.

Come to think of it... I'm not sure I'm old enough to participate in all these activities. ;)

Try applying for a federal grant (NIH, DoE) ... There's a lot of precision required applying for federal jobs; I don't know that I recall enough of my employment history to complete a fed app.

My favorite example of lunacy of that ilk was when a buddy of mine wanted to apply for a full-time NJ National Guard spot after being a weekend guy for a few years. There are documents that the National Guard Bureau produces which specify the skills needed to screen for the position in question. The "resume" that gets turned in must not only contain the keywords, but indeed needs to have the entire sentences that the Guard Bureau document has. All this hoop-jumping for a job that is military but not technically military. Many National Guard jobs come out of state-level money, which means that the funding line items are in reality civilian jobs. The union that represents the full-timers negotiated in the wear of the uniform during the week back in the 1950's.

I still remember the form I had to fill out for my security clearance. 29 pages. Because of filling out that form, I now have the exact date that I moved into my current house burned into my mind.

I was thinking it was Aug 8-9 and I am off that weekend. I thought I may have overlooked the fact that I was free, but it was just a brain fart :-:

Remember - $2,500 or less is one box; over $2,500 is more than one box that don't always arrive the same day.

I will keep that in mind. Thank you.

I got my new passport today, it has no stamps
I had 2 years left on my old one and zero space even with the extra pages added. They made me write a letter with the application asking for early renewal :-:

My mother just wrapped a length of ribbon of some sort around her cat's neck and is as I type this attempting to take the cat for a walk. The cat gripped the doorframe in an attempt to not get taken outside, and this did not deter my mother from attempting to walk a cat. Those of you who have met me and think I have a screw loose...you now know that it is not entirely from my exposure to high explosives.

ETA: Mother: "I thought I'd surprise her and it would be a change of pace. She made me drag her. It's like the cat was paralyzed." YOU THINK?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Gosh, when I started reading it with the ribbon around the neck and all I was thinking the worse....

I'll be requesting a new one early in 2010, about a year before my current one expires ...

Do any of the Box's resident foodies happen to know of any people or places that would collect old (read: closed) restaurant menus?

I may have a friend in LAS that may want them. Let me check.

Very cool. Did we determine if he will set off the Airport Metal detector?

I was unable to go to KOSH but here is the link to the daily page with two cool videos of the A380 landing (looks like strong cross winds) and also a tour of the cockpit with noticably no sound! Here is the link: http://www.airventure.org/ The interesting part is Sir Richard Branson was there as well with the Virgin Galactic PLane.

Am I eligible for an EUA on a DL flight operated by NW?

ETA: I am thinking NO. I think it needs to be a NW ticket on NW stock, a NW flight operated by NW, but I am not sure.
