I just don't know of anything to do in Dallas. There's the grassy knoll, but you can be in and out of the book depository in an hour (after seeing everything) and you can't take pictures in the middle of the street because the traffic there is heavy.

Where in downtown Dallas do you feel unsafe? I've personally never experienced that in downtown, although much of it is pretty dead outside of Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:00.

As for unsafe areas, every city has them.

Anywhere near the zoo, the rest of Oak Cliff, near the AA Center (it's better there now).

I know every city has unsafe areas, *cough* Gunspoint *cough*, I just found very little appealing or redeeming qualities in downtown Dallas. There is more nightlife than downtown Houston but that's it. After living there for a year, I was ready to leave. And I should add, while I like Houston, I don't see myself living here long-term.

I remember driving thru there and thinking this is it

Apparently a few years ago the Denver Tech Center Hyatt had a ridiculous rates on weekends. The hotel used to be full of mattress runners that would call in and check in and call in to check-out. The hotel was physically empty but according to the books it was full.

With Hyatt's program you don't even have to show up. Last year I forgot to cancel a Hyatt reservation (fortunately it was dirt cheap) and their no-show charge gives you points and a stay/night credit. I believe they're the only major hotel program that will do that.

Those of you who have redeemed your free SPG weekend nights, can you book the nights first, earn the rest of the free nights and redeem them after you've booked the nights you want?

When you say book them first , do you mean book them on points and then change to Free weekend ?

Gotcha. I didn't really think of south Dallas or Oak Cliff as "downtown." But yeah, those aren't very desirable neighborhoods.

I spent four years in college in the Dallas area and never disliked it. Granted I've not felt much desire to move there, but it has its nice parts. Compared to where I live now, I'd probably take Dallas over Atlanta.

You can make a reservation online, and then call to have them switch it. Or at least I think you can — when I redeemed mine they implied that you could do that, and the lady who helped me asked me if I had made the reservation already, or if I needed her to do that for me too.

I mean book them with a credit card (not prepaid) and then change them to a free weekend.

I want to stay at the hotel for more than a weekend but would like to use my free weekends for Friday-Sunday. I do not have the third free weekend yet and will not get it until after I book the hotel.

You can do that, and then switch the nights to the free weekend nights. However, they will split the reservation to two confirmation numbers if doing a combination of free weekend nights and paid nights on the same stay. Apparently Starwood's systems aren't capable of a combination award/revenue stay on the same confirmation number. We had this same situation in Las Vegas a few weeks ago. My experience was that the front desk could see the second reservation when we checked in, and just processed us for all of the nights at once, so we didn't have to deal with checking out and back in and having new keys made on the morning of the day we switched from an award stay to a paid stay.

You can change a paid reservation to a free weekend assuming there is award availability, also keep in mind that the free weekend award can take up to a week to post after the 2nd stay.

I'm assuming you are talking about Woodbridge, NJ? Dang, I was about to use them to fight out a better event price out of the Woodbrige Hilton. I'd suspect a Renaissance would be less competitive.
