Me. I'm still sweating out the booze from last night, I think. The good news is that work is incredibly quiet or I'd be in a world of hurt right now.

At the lounge yesterday in washington the news about the pilot dying broke and I heard two people say variations of 'THAT is why I don't fly'....welllllll do you think that an engineer on a train dying would be any safer.......think about it!!!

Sounds like a battle in the Global War on Stupidity that is not worth fighting. If people are taking the train instead of flying because they think airplanes are deathtraps, tell them you have beachfront land to sell them in Arizona.

I feel I have become a kinder gentler person in AM 2, I am allowing people on my routes, I am not doing the 1 euro fare thing, and I am making plenty of money.

Perhaps today is the day I'll get to try out HOU-DFW on an AT7. It hasn't rained for a month, so I doubt weather will wreck my plans this time...

While I totally agree with Wade Boggs, I can't help but think that "You're cheating Americana and apple pie, baby" will become a T-shirt punchline. I felt a little creepy just typing it.

Everytime I venture into the Club Acela in DC during the summer, I am amazed at the number of people who are taking the train to Chicago (and points west), the Carolinas, and Florida. Those people must 1) travel once a year, or 2) have too much time on their hands.

I would kind of like to travel by train.

I'd want to get off after about 2 hours. IMO, using trains for long distance travel just seems like a waste of valuable vacation time.

3) My brother ....... who won't get a plane no matter what. He has no problems on a Coast Guard cutter in 30 ft seas offshore, but a plane?! That 's certain death.

I used to think so, until I took a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer. Absolutely one of the best travel experiences I've had.

I now have the opportunity to go to HKG in the fall. It is not set in stone yet, but it is looking good.

NRT on NW/DL an option (award or pay)? I've generally seen really good options (and upgradeable fares) there.

Option 1, to quote a certain former MLB manager, would be "entirely unacceptable".

When I do a search from LGA I get NW and DL for the saverpass in business , but it shows economy on the confirmation page

Difference in *A / ST fare class bucket naming? I've had that occur on one award itinerary (show as Y but really F).

SLC is remarkably high on the list as well.

Fair point, I was thinking more along the lines of Amtrak when I made my comment. If the journey involves of significant amount of site seeing, then I think I'd be fine.
