Good morning box, here in Atlanta it is going to be a  Saturday.

Morning, Box. If I didn't have a 10am haircut and a 6pm wedding, I'd be out in nowheresville helping to build a house for Habitat. As much as I've always wanted to get involved with them, the local people picked a bad day to ask. :(

ABC stores started out small but over the years they just kept taking over failed leases. They are privately owned and one major PITA to deal with on a vendor level. I had to deal with them in my prior life. The funny thing is they make tons of money in all of their stores.

May you e-mail me that recipe? I suspect it's rather simple. I gave more of my money to them than I had expected to. They had everything I needed except for a hair comb.

They sell ABC store t-shirts. I think the South of the Border people would be proud.

Those are good T-shirts. I like that they are longer than most.

G'day, Box. Beeeeeautiful morning here. Just got back from a long walk with the dog and now I'm contemplating some garden work. That will have to wait a bit because there will be power tools involved and I don't want the neighborhood to hate me.;)

And just how many times does someone have to take Pelham 1-2-3?

Good morning Box. I have just zipped up my bag and am soon off to JFK to get another look at UA, an airline that soon may be important to many of us.

My past experiences with this decrepit company have been extremely negative but their first class was the only choice when I shopped for a trip to Oz using miles (actually, coach was available but, really?).

But, you say, how bad can 24 hours of champagne and top shelf stuff be really bad? I say that it is bad if the FA starts regarding you as an inconvenience simply because you are continuing to request service more than one hour into the flight.

Next look at the Box will be this afternoon from the International Lounge at JFK.

Just demand skykits for every failure in service. :D

Have a great trip, monitor!

Quick AM question for the box. Is there an easy cost-benefit analysis metric to use when evaluating running a route versus the gate costs? I know that there are other costs, too, but I cannot figure out if say a $10K daily route to an airport with a 100K gate is a good deal or not. Seems like it should be OK since I make back the gate costs in revenue but I'm not sure my reasoning is sound.

Mornin Box. At the LAX PC, about to get on 1703 for EWR. Woo.

From what I've learned, the name of the game is profit by any means. Feel free to charge $10 for a soda, because in the AM reality, pax actually pay it. For your route that makes 10K Euro per day, that's 240,000 Euro in a month, leaving you with 140,000 Euro pure profit on that route after gate costs. For just starting out, that ain't bad. You'll be able to benefit from larger aircraft on that route once you have the capital to invest in them. Profit builds exponentially in this game, so it isn't that long until you have real cash to deal with on a day to day (real time) basis. I know the ATRs are not included in ALCO's world, but they are extremely profitable for most regional routes. I have some ATR-72 aircraft that bank more than 600,000 Euro in profit each game day.

That's something I should look into. I would love to help them out on a nice day.
