have you ever stayed in miami or homestead for a week(outside of a resort or 4+ star hotel)? talk about a festering pit, in so many ways!

I grew up in south Florida. Houston is worse. The humidity is about the same as south Florida, but it gets hotter in southeast Texas. Summers in south Florida are consistently in the low 90s/upper 80s. It's rare when it gets to the mid 90s. In Houston, it can go to the mid/upper 90s, no problem. I moved some of my belongings here this past July. Stupid me moved stuff out of the moving van in the middle of the day, and the high for that day was 97.

I don't know why I missed it initially. Would have served me well too. But no need for them now.

As for heat - Houston summer didn't bother me. I was always indoors (or at the pool, swimming). Hong Kong didn't bother me. If you live there long enough, you'll know all the routes to get from one place to another without ever leaving the frigid air-conditioning. :p

Hottest place I've been was probably Petra. Went there in August! Hiked all day. I'm surprised I didn't die. [I almost did die, after visiting Abul Simbal a few weeks prior - in July.] Don't go to those places in the summer. It's suicidal.

Just got back from Blockheads (a mexican food place in NYC) and the food/drinks were not as bad as I expted. I had a wierd drink that consisted of: frozen margarita, sangria, and corona. Not sure what its called but it was pretty good.

I am currently scheduled to arrive IAH at 1:43 a.m. which puts me home (provided the bags come off in a decent amount of time) around 3:00 a.m. Way to get over the jet lag!

While the pilots were great, the FAs were . They seemed rushed and then almost that we were an inconvience to them. Things got better by the cheese course, and by that point, I didn't care. I slept post dinner to breakfast and had a great seatmate (not as great as Plus1, but pretty great). My seat wasn't working, but the FA was able to get it in a position that was comfortable - I just had to stay that way. From when the first bag came off our flight to when mine arrived - over 45 mins :td:. Hoped to make the 7 p.m. flight - was told it was delayed to 8 - thought why would I do that when I have an 8:15 and it would have been coach - F was full. Stupid, stupid me! So now I spend my hours catching up on email, now catching up on the box and enjoying the spoils of the P Club.

Huh. I'd be willing to try that.

It certainly saves time having to choose from the three options.;)

Except when you stay in the micro-climate that exists at and right close to the beach. There you will find a constant cooling breeze off the ocean during the day that makes Florida weather a completely different experience than if you are even a few miles inland.

I wish I would have taken a picture of it. It was marg and sangria in the cup with an upsidedown mini corona slowly seeping into the mix.

You got that at Blockhead's Burritos? There's one of them around the corner from my house and I have been thinking all along that is simply a stand-up fast food imitation Mexican place. Maybe we check it out next time in NY.

I lived right on the ocean for 2 years, hated ever humid minute of it, and it took forever to shop there too :)
I am impatient sometimes and Miami is a really odd city, you never know when a store is going to be open.

One man's humid climate can be in another's comfort zone. IIRC, Miami is not on the ocean and as I said, there is a difference even a short way inland.

And what does shopping have to do with climate? Everybody knows that to go anywhere in South Florida you will need to get into your car so an extra few minute's driving to get to the strip center or mall is inconsequential.

Similar experience outside Krabi in August. We went to a Buddhist monastary and climbed a mountain "in the footsteps of Buddha, in the path to enlightenment." Without water.

The only thing I enlightened was my water weight.
