AUS will definitely be a step up in humidity from SAN, and a huge step up in temperature. I remember when I took a group of amigos from the UK to Austin in July. They were dropping like flies, and whenever we walked around outdoors, they scurried from patch of shade to patch of shade like cockroaches terrified of the light. I remember phrases such as "This is worse than effing Malaga!" and "Bloody Hell" being repeated quite often.

IIRC, you're from IAH... so you should be at least somewhat prepared for the furnace. I just remember the summer I lived there that we went nearly a week without the temperature dropping below 90 (even at night). That sucked.

I used to commute to work with a guy who grew up in Nigeria. His father was a chief with a local tribe. We were talking about heat and humidity one day and he commented, "You know, I grew up in Africa, but I found that I never experienced heat and humidity in my whole life until I got to Houston."

And you're right, I am from the IAH area (south of the city, about 15 miles from the Gulf) and remember a summer like that. I was 16 years old, didn't have A/C in my truck, and got to feeling sick because it was so hot, even though I had both windows rolled down and was doing 65mph. My wife is from PHX so she is also familiar with horrible heat. But that's why we have good air conditioners and a healthy supply of .

I think it will be martini time in a few minutes. I really have rediscovered martinis as of late (as if I ever "lost" them in the first place).

Something's wrong with the martini I just threw together. I doubt it's the lack of an olive.

Lookin' like a good happy hour in CLE. My buddy just called and said he won a complimentary Happy Hour for 25 tonight at ReddStone :)

did you use that last bottle of cheap wine instead of harder stuff? That may be an issue :)

I used Bombay Saffire. I don't think I have any cheap bottles of wine. Just old and likely crappy (ok the NJ wine is just passable but 2000 was a good year for NJ and the bottle was free from the now former vineyard owner) . My Martini seems to have needed to rest a bit. Now it's better.

Sounds about right...I tolerate heat better than most, but for the first two weeks of August in BTR, where it is not safe to leave things made out of certain types of plastic in your car during the day unless you want them softened, it's barely possible to be outside longer than the time it takes you to run from car to building, or vice versa.

it has a racing pit too, making it even pittier!

I wonder if I should bother dragging myself to the Bronx tomorrow for the game judging by the weather forecast? I still have a ton to do on this PowerPoint presentation that I have to e-mail off on Monday morning.

The track is to Homestead what Prudential Center is to Newark. Only cool thing is the lake that people jetski in behind the backstretch, and that the track is in the approach for the Air Force base, so you'll get buzzed by F-16's.

I just tossed an interesting addition to the aircraft market. It served me well but I am refining my fleet plans.
