ALCO definitely seems like a ton of fun, but my very first interaction with sbm12 has been seared into my brain... at the IAH E PC... with drinks not only in his hands, but also in his hawaiian shirt pocket... red wine even.

Now THAT is a true professional! :)

So is it normal to get a reject form letter less than 24 hours after a phone conversation where it is established that you're "still in the running"? :(

Oh, bummer. I'm sorry, CM.

Many thanks. You all are a most hospitable group. ^

It's normal when your dealing with someone without the balls to say, "You're not what we were looking for. Sorry to waste your time..."
Some folks just have a problem doing that face to face. Never could understand it.
Mike, you sound like a guy with a lot going for you. You'll find something that fits. Good luck on you hunt.

Sorry to hear, they're the ones who lost out.

I think we'll opt for the Presidential suite at the Hotel Carter. Thanks for the recommendation.

Should we use your name when making the reservation?

Not at all. The Ambassador was extremely nice and his wife is a dead ringer for Anne Archer, but blond. Fun stuff on the 52nd floor.

LOL. I joined April 2006 and forgot that I joined...came back about a year later and discovered The Box when it was on page 96, after reading all 96 pages. 4,000+ Box posts later, here I am. Fully two-thirds of my total post count is here.

In the non-schengen area you can just walk to the lounge, no problem, without having to clear customs. You could always purchase a refundable AMS-LHR one-way ticket if you wanted a ticket to the lounge.

So if I understand this, I could get off my flight and get a lounge shower if my room wasn't ready? (The correct answer to this would also do much to justify the NW WC 30-day membership thing.) I have the airport Hilton booked and an early check-in request on file, but it would be nice to know that I have a backup option.

I was so entertained by T&L magazine's Martini Index that I wrote about it. I cannot believe that there are people paying the average price of $36 (~30 Euro) for a martini at bars in Paris, but I guess there are morons everywhere.

"Out of space" as an explanation makes about as much sense as being told that my upgrade didn't clear because it is a full moon, but I'm pretty sure that I've heard that one so I won't question it. :p

Vista is actually fine in many scenarios. The HW requirements are higher for reasonable performance, but overall it can work just fine in many, many scenarios. I've deployed it a few times and it does work OK. It is certainly not compelling and there is enough end-user training and IT training that it runs into a lot of opposition. Plus, it is "cool" to make fun of it, so that adds to the joy.

In the interest of full disclosure, I believe that my vodka tonic was in my pocket while the red wine was in my hand. I'm crazy, but I'm not that crazy. :D I also was pretty drunk at the time, so if you tell me that the red wine was really in my pocket I have no choice but to believe you.

My record was a call while walking back to my room from the interview. In the 20 minutes between leaving and making it across campus to my room I had a VM telling me that I was no longer being considered. The really crappy part was that bars in Ithaca would run specials where you got cheap drinks for ding letters. Since that one was a phone call I didn't even get the cheap drink. :(

Sorry to hear about the ding. :td:

For reasons I cannot explain (well, a good quantity of Belgian beer followed by some pretty good Italian wine is a start) I decided to figure out what the "pompitous of love" is tonight. Sadly, it seems that the answer is that there is no answer and that the Steve Miller Band likes to confuse people (answer #5). I think that's a pretty good indication that it is bed time.

Apparently there is now a limit of 10 images per post, including the smily faces. That was unexpected. I wonder how the snow plow posts will survive.
