I don't know the exact details on the ratings, but the cockpits are supposedly very similar. CO pilots can (and do) jump between the 752/753 and 762/764.

No, they are the same rating--DRW is type rated for both--I've asked before because I didn't think so at first.
From what I understand, they use the same cockpit and instrumentation, so a type rating works for both. IIRC from Boeing history--the 767 was a little rushed because of the size/widebody demand and the fact they used a lot of 757 parts--notably the front few sections.

ok neat, I know that a 757 can be called a 'heavy' at times, but it is not technically widebody, while 767 is a wide. I know that types relate much to the cockpit and controls but figured with the 'size' difference they'd be different.

Seems I was/am not alone in that thought too.

But he's my brother!

I always assumed the heavy designation was given to a/c that were on missions over certain distances and therefore were carrying extra fuel. The extra weight, I assumed, made them heavy. Why this is relevant to anyone else would have to do with their air displacement and their wake patterns.

Anyway, I could be completely off on that. My mind sometimes puts 1 and 1 together and makes a pizza.

Mornin' Box!

My IAH-PDX upgrade cleared just a few minutes ago. So the long segments are in F, but the elusive AUS-IAH upgrade slips away again

One of the selling points Boeing used for the 757 767 was the common rating. If you use both aircraft you don't need seperate pilots for each type. As for the 757 being a heavy that has to do with the wind vortex it sheds as it's simular to true heavies. This is to provide further time/distance to other planes during approach and after take off. I think the heavy designation is what may have killed of the 757 program in the end.

Once again, there are all kinds of things I could say. None of them appropriate.
